Please Advise on this European Cut 1.4CT , Online auction?

I was searching for OEC diamonds, and came across this result, it says this diamond had "AGS with an estimated replacement cost at that time of $14200.00". Of course I don't believe that, but the Color and clarity might be right, I don't think auction house will have the report, even if they do, I think it will be after you won the auction, they estimated 3000-4000, so even with 16% buyer fee, with shipping insurance, it would still be under 5k, if this truly is by AGS, I think it would be a great deal. What is your input on this diamond?

I don't think it has an AGS lab report. I'm not sure what they are stating it has from AGS. But if it has a lab report you should be able to get the number and looking it up. If it doesn't have a lab report then they are just throwing AGS about with no cause to do so. What are you asking? 5K is good if everything is as stated-- even without the lab report.

It was probably appraised by a jeweler who was a member of AGS. AGS doesn't do appraisals and AGSL didn't exist in 1981 (they don't do appraisals either. There are lots of various AGSL reports but NONE of them include a price). Ask to see a copy of the report they're talking about and it will surely include information about who wrote it.

Based on ebay comps I'd expect a stone like that to go for around $3k, but the 16% buyers fee is hard to swallow.

Thanks for your input, the auction ended at 4600, with the 16% buyer fee and plus shipping and insurance to get it over here to CA exceeded my budget for this diamond.

I decided to give up, since I don't think it will be a good deal after 5k range.
