Hi! Has anyone been to the Yucatán for an adults only all inclusive land vacation? We are planning one with our friends and I was curious if anyone had yays or nays regarding this.

We have cruised to the Yucatán like 7 times and every time, I wonder what a land vacation would be like because I love Mexico.

Will will be going with 3-4 other couples and one couple will be celebrating their 50th birthdays.

I told them let’s wait for the coronavirus specials before booking....

I was just there over new years!

Tons of great resorts. Check out trip advisor and read the reviews. From Canada I find its cheaper to book packages that include flights and hotels, but if youre closer the flights would likely be much cheaper for you.

I’m nearly certain there will be a direct flight for us. I just checked TripAdvisor and the resort has 5 stars. Yay!

@whitewave I have been to the area on 4 occasions in the past. Twice based near Playa del Carmen and twice a bit further down the coast towards Tulum. I absolutely love the area and would return at the drop of a hat.
Can't really give you accurate hotel recommendations as was last there over 5 years ago.

:lol::lol::lol:

I feel your pain...we're booked to go to Washington DC for spring break. So much for timing!:P2:oops2:

We go to Cancun 1-2X per year. We stay at nicer all-inclusives that are kid-free. It is a direct flight for us so we are through customs/immigration and settled at our resort by lunch time. We love it because it is easy to get there and pretty inexpensive.

We stay in the Cancun hotel zone as it is close to the airport (15 minutes) and the beaches are nice. We like to have ocean-view or oceanfront rooms with a balcony so we can look at the water.

We have done Riviera Maya as well but it is 45 minutes from the airport and the resorts can be more isolated or have rocky beaches. Also usually have armed guards at the ends of the beach. I only say that so you are not alarmed--we felt perfectly safe. But we did not leave the resort to walk the beach due to this.

I highly recommend The Excellence Riviera. Best adults only, all inclusive we’ve ever been to, and we’ve stayed in many in Cancun. It’s just north of Playa Del Carmen in Puerto Morelos. Check it out!

There are amazing archeological sites all over the Yukatan.
Chichén Itzá is fantastic- and the cenote close to it- called "Ik Kil" is a phenomenal spot to swim/dive.
Last time we were at Playa Del Carmen- a few years back- the beach was filled with red algae....so we could not swim.
if you're really looking for some incredible Mexican culture, the city of Merida is a great place to visit- but it's about 4 hours from Cancun.....

@Niffler75 thanks, yea, one couple recommended Iberostar Grand Pariso, but the couple who have the birthdays— she is calling a travel agent friend tomorrow to see what’s what. I told them to book us what they book and to try and get the same building. They already said they want oceanfront suite rooms with the alcove and swings overlooking the palpas and beach and Caribbean.

@tyty333 its going to be crazy travel days in these next several months, isn’t it? Coronavirus is now in Dominican Repulbic, so I expect those price breaks soon.

@Elizabeth35 you just reminded me that Dh needs to renew his passport. We have done all the 5 and 7 day cruise itineraries from New Orleans, so we have been places with armed guards on the beach, and to be honest I felt safer that way. I can’t wait! The Cancun/Cozumel area has the best color water! (Next to Roatan and also the Bahamas). I’ve never been to playa del Carmen.

@Bonfire, thank you for the recommendation. I will text it to the group so we can check it out.

@Rockdiamond yes, you get it. We went to Uxmal instead of Chichen Iza since at the time, they still let you climb up the ruins there. I haven’t been to Merida but it’s on my list. Also, near Merida are the cenotes that were formed when the astroid hit the earth that they theorize killled off the dinosaurs. I mean, wow...:o

Yes, I should look up red tide to see about it. I remember reading about it last year, but since we weren’t going to the beach, I didn’t pay attention to it.
