I am quite confused about purchasing a platinum wedding band and would like you guys to help set me straight. Here''s the dilemma: This 4mm PT950 comfort-fit band: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/platcf4linfo.html

Is under $500, no tax and free shipping with excellent reviews. The VERY SAME band at Jared''s is $1600. What gives? I understand a couple hundred bucks difference, but 3x the difference? What I am missing? Am I getting fleeced at Jared''s or is the e-weddingbands.com ring not the same quality?

Thanks all!

You're not missing anything, ajoe -- the eweddingbands.com rings are very high quality. And, yes, it is possible that Jared's markup could be 3-4 times higher. Retail stores have very high overhead.

In July, I ordered this band from eweddingbands link and it was gorgeous.

High quality, great company to deal with. I had to send it back because it did not fit with the solitaire setting I had at the time - but it was such a nice ring, I almost kept it just to have another band option!

What you'll want to do is check is the weight of the rings at Jared's vs. the one on e-weddingbands and also the height in millimeters to make sure you're not looking at a super-thick, heavy gauge ring at Jared's versus a lighter weight ring on e-weddingbands. The ring I ordered was a heavy weight ring.

Sara, for sure it is the same weight as I tried out the ring at Jared''s (to make sure it feels good on the hand) and it''s definitely not the heavy-weight variety. Even if Jared''s was the heavy-weight (which it wasn''t), it would cost $727 online by comparison. Still less than 1/2 the price for more platinum. I can''t believe people buy jewelry like that at retail stores given the huge mark-ups (and I''m sure the online stores are still making a good profit).

Yup, good thing you checked with PS, because I''m sure you can think of a lot better things to do with the $700 - $900 you''ll save than give it to Jared''s!

If you do a search for eweddingbands.com in the PS archives, you''ll see a fair amount of people have bought wedding bands from them and been very satisfied.

They really are a pleasant company to deal with, too.

Sara, absolutely! I''ll be saving what is in effect ($1785 - 486) $1300!!! I can definitely find a good use for that :) Any other opinions before I click the "submit order" button? :)

e-weddingbands.com is superb quality.
They are really good about returns if you turn out not to want the band after you see it.
don''t pay the Jared markup.
