Which is better to hold an F color diamond....yellow gold, white gold, or platinum? I have my VS2 F set in platinum just because I liked the setting. A friend of mine said if I had it set in yellow gold it would make the diamond look even more colorless. Your thoughts?
I think your friend is a wee off on this one. I had always heard the exact oppisate and that the only way the yellow gold would make a stone look whiter would be if it was a lower color grade...Like an I or lower.
I think the color needs to be dependent on your preferences. What do you like better? YG? WG? If you like to wear a lot of silver or WG, then you want to look at WG or Platinum... An "F" diamond can be placed in either color and would still look white. If you're not sure or like both, then you can even get a ring made with both colors....for example:
I love platinum and think that many people with white gold complain that it can turn yellow over time. If you love yellow gold and many people do, make sure the prongs are white gold or platinum. This will prevent any yellow from reflecting into the stone. Some people may disagree, but I had a friend that had yellow gold prongs and they reflected into her stone making it look yellow and her stone was an F. Just my 0.2.
