platinum setting that tapers in towards diamond?

Wondering if you all have any guidance. I am searching for a setting for a stone that will likely end up being a .84-.9 asscher.

I am looking for a platinum setting that is dainty, yet smooth and contemorary. Perhaps something that tapers in towards the stone (no side or band stones) but w/o a knife edge... putting the focus on the stone and not the band.

any ideas? also, would this tapering make the wedding band look funny since it won''t sit flush?

This is by Vatche. I am looking at rounds, but I think it would be lovely with a square stone as well.

i love the ritani solitaire ... it''s called the royal crown and it tapers in at the shoulders but is not a knife edge along the band part, the taper is a bit knife edge. it sits flush with my w-ring so i imagine it would fit flush with most rings, the head starts in the band and tapers outwards. it''s $1500 or so in platinum...if i were going with a solitaire, this would be my hands down first choice!! vatche royal crown would be a close second!!! or maybe they''d be tied!

I love the Ritani that mara is talking about too. It tapers but a wedding band will fit flush which I love. Here''s a pic from pearlmans. you can get it without the surprise diamond and he has it priced at $1200.

I think there actually are quite a few dainty / narrow bands out there ... how narrow do you want to go???

Is cost a factor???

Are you looking for something that will completely sit flush with a wring???

Is your mind made up with the bands that taper in towards the diamond???

Depending on how narrow you want to go, I have seen some pretty settings with plain bands. As Mara pointed out the Ritani is narrow, dainty looking and I think pretty. Have you seen it? I wonder if it is available for an Assher cut diamond.

Also, another setting I really adore, is the Locke's solitare. It has a plain band, and the head has tiny lil' surprise diamonds in the head. Matatora just recently got this setting for her diamond ... and it's scrumptious! I don't know if a wring will sit totaly flush, but if it doesn't I think it would be fairly close. I don't think an Assher would work for this setting, but something to consider if you go w/a RB.

There is also Precision Set, I think most of their settings look pretty, and they are made to sit flush w/ an wring. You can access their site thru GOG ... just click on ring settings and different vendors w/pop up and you can explore many different styles. Sometimes a ring isn't on a vendors website's pics ... but some vendors have access to different settings.

Here is a face down look of the ring that Diamondseeker posted. I think it really will set off any center stone! It is by Vatche, and if you are interested in this setting, call Good Old Gold or email marie [email protected], they have access to this ring setting, it also happens to be the setting that I will be getting.

Have you looked thru the "Show me the ring" SMTR thread? There are sooo many different styles of rings and different combo's of erings, and diamond shapes to get more ideas on what you might like.

And last but not least ... there is always going a custom route.

thanks so much for all the help!!! this site (and all of you) have been very helpful... hard to figure all this out while ''pretending'' to study for the bar at the same time!

I found a ring at I Gorman in DC that i really liked. It was similar to the one posted above (that appears to be a vatche royal x-prong) but by a different designer and with "pointier" ends to a narrower shank. It was listed at $1775 (more for the square mounting). I''ll find out the name of the designer tomorrow and post.

I think these rings with the tapering in shanks are just great. They really make the center stone POP!

I wonder if anyone does one with tapered baguettes on the sides, but with the pointy ends going in....hmm...

Hee hee...speaking of knife edge....looky at AGBF''s solitaire!! Different, and not for everybody, but I love it. (I wonder if she''s posted a side shot of this ring somewhere...)
