Hey everyone!

This past sunday we met with my fiances parents and when she took the ring off to show them it was all bend out of shape.
And not just a little it was VERY bent. She was upset and kept saying how she has been so careful with the E-ring and she has not slammed it or dropped it or anything like that. I just want to know if this is normal. I can understand being a little mishapen but she has only worn it for 1 week and its totally out of shape! Is this normal for a platunum band? I know its thin 2.5-3mm but its not like she''s lifting weights with it or anything...

She is taking back to the jeweler today to see what they say...

Hi cvidt

Certainly sounds a bit odd. I''d definitely take it back to see what the jeweller says. 2.5-3mm shouldn''t really be bent all that easily.

Of course, it could be that you fiancée is super strong!

Thats what I thought.

But in her defense she is only 110lb with a size 5 finger. She''s tough but.......

I''d check her wardrobe for a blue spandex costume with a red cape. Maybe a big red S on the front...

Could be worse... I could have asked if she turns green and grows to 5 times normal size when she gets angry...

That is kinda weird. Make sure that the jeweler you bought the ring from gives you a warranty on the ring. Platinum is very durable, so it is not common for this to happen, even if your fiancee is superwoman.

Does she wear a ring on the ring finger of her right hand? This may sound odd, but it''s based on a similar situation from another discussion board.

If she wears a ring on her other hand, the regular impact of clapping could cause distortion. Platinum is very dense, but soft. Reason it''s described as "stronger" than white gold is because if a prong gets caught on something it will bend instead of break, thus lessening the chance of the stone falling out.

maybe gripping the steering wheel hard?

is it possible for plat. to bend, especially in a pave setting where holes are there for the stones to be set in making it weaker. also, porosity may be part of the issue if the ring was cast. talk to the jeweler though and let us know what they say. i''d be upset too if my ring weren''t bent after only 1 week.

Well many of you may know, but the ring was done by quest. (u can find pics from my last post)

She took it back today and they were more than happy to repair and polish it. But they told her she needs to be more careful.
She hasn''t done anything out of the ordinary, no gym or lifting anything heavy. They told her to wear it every day and not worry,
but it was less than a week and it was totally out of shape!

All they did was set it on a ring sizer and hammer it down to a size 5 then polish it.

I don''t want her to drive there every week to straighten it. I shouldn''t have to right?

I know its a delicate ring but she wears cheap rings that she has had for over 10years and they don''t bend. I''m wondering if the casting was bad?
Its absolutely beautiful when its straight haha.

It might have been something unusual that she did during that week (fighting crime can be hell on jewellery). Leave it for another week and see if the problem occurs again. If not, then don''t worry, it was probably a once off, but if it happens again I''d take this further with the jeweller. At the end of the day, no matter what the design, a ring should not be bent out of shape after just 1 week of regular wear.

Totally agree.
