Platinum looks black and burned

Hi,

I have a question about polishing platinum... I took my Tiffany engagement and weddings bands into the store the other day to be polished and cleaned. When I picked them up, I just put them on with out inspecting them very closely (I usually never inspect them as they''ve always looked beautiful after a cleaning).

When I got home, I noticed blackish spots (on the wedding band only), where it looked like the platinum had been tarnished or burned. Those spots weren''t there before I took the ring in for a cleaning!

How did this happen and what is it??? I thought platinum was pretty much indescructible?

10 to 1 its polishing compound that didn''t get cleaned off.

That would be my guess too. Try putting some warm water on a cloth and gently rubbing it off.
