Most people have said it should not set off the metal detector... don''t know if I''d risk it? I don''t think leaving it in your carry-on for the 20 seconds it is on the conveyor belt is risky.
Right before walking through the metal-detector-doorway I have always handed my ring through the doorway directly to the security person who is watching me.
They have always just taken it and handed it back to me a couple seconds later after I pass through the doorway properly.
They understand we do not like to let bling out of our sight.
My ring has never set off the metal detector at an airport (or at my work--I work in a courthouse), and I usually have a necklace, earrings, navel ring, and sometimes a watch on as well. I suggest removing all other metal objects if you''re concerned, but leaving your ring on should not set off the metal detector.
