OK. I am new to buying diamonds and need some guidance. I have done a little research on my own but I think this community could really help me to get the perfect ring for my Fiance.

To give you an idea of what I am looking for, this is the setting I had in mind. Feel free to give me suggestions or similar settings you would recommend:

I want to pair this setting with a diamond from Blue Nile or WF. The Diamond I picked out so far is a .43 Carat, F-Color, VS-2, excellent symmetry/polish, GIA / GCAL certified.

Do you think a .46 would look good in the above setting? Also is Gabriel NY a reputable dealer? What about Blue Nile and WF?

Thanks for all your help!!

I bought my engagement ring diamond from Blue Nile, and it is beautiful. They drop ship from various sources, and don't necessarily have the diamond in front of them, so you need to do your homework on the diamond to know what you're getting. That's where reports come in (GIA/AGSL), and the good folks here can tell you what they think. That is how I did when i bought my ring, and my wife gets compliments on her diamond a lot! Customer Service from Blue Nile was great. I did buy a Blue Nile Signature Ideal diamond, like the one you're looking at. Which is a fancy name (as best I can figure) for the diamonds that are cut the best. Cut is super important with a diamond. However, there are several factors at play that can make one diamond perform much better than another in terms of cut. Some folks here are wizs at figuring out good/not as good cuts.

I can also vouch for White Flash - their service is great, and the diamonds I bought from them were beautiful and very sparkly. I bought the flower cluster pendant and earrings for my wife.

Congrats on a big step in your life, trust in the folks here and you're not likely to go too far astray!

I think Gabriel and Co. makes very nice rings in the medium price range. I would prefer WF over Blue Nile in that they have photos and other information on the diamonds. And I will mention that Good Old Gold sells Gabriel and Co. settings, and it is much easier to buy the stone and setting at the same place.
