Sometimes I can be an idiot. A few months ago I spotted The Perfect Watch in the window of a Tourneau . It was either stainless steel or white gold or platinum, it was rectangular, and it had a glorious red enameled face. But I was in a hurry so I didn't go in, and ... well. Google gives me nada.

I vaguely remember an Italiante sort of a name, but beyond that, nothing. I know some of y'all are watch aficionados, so ... any thoughts on what the watch could be?

C'mon, guys - not ringing aaaaaaaaaaany bells? DF, you're a watch guy! Seen anything similar?

I *knew* I should have bought the watch, punctuality be damned. I know. Ironic.

Wow, awesome detective work! I don't think any of those are the exact watch I saw - I am remembering it almost like a Cartier Tank, but with a red face - but they are v. cool! That square one will be a top contender, for sure. :)

Methinks today I will drop by that store and see if anybody there will remember the one I am talking about. Fingers crossed!

circe - was the band metal as well, or leather? what kind of numbering did it have if any?

Re: Pinning down a watch - red face, rectangular, ring a bel

It was a white metal band, and I *think* it had Arabic numerals. What I remember best is the depth of the enamel on the face: it looked almost like guilloche. Just gorgeous ....

Was it at all similar to this watch?

Ha! Sorry, Jaysonsmom! I immediately thought about this watch because I've been wanting it myself!

It IS a beautiful watch. I love red, and if I were ever to get a watch, that would be a contender too.

So I went back to the store, and ... they had no idea what I was talking about! ARGH. I actually went to two Tourneau's and a couple of fancy antique watch places: all I got were a lot of puzzled faces and the latest di Grisogono catalogue.

But luckily, I have you guys! Nashville, JM - that is a gorgeous watch! I don't think it's the one I remember - the one I saw was chunckier, more squared off, and it didn't have the diamond frame. But the Ebel Brasilia is gorgeous! It's definitely going on the list. I'm eyeballing that and the Chanel J12 with the ruby markers ... but I still want my mystery dream-watch! Waaaaaaaagh! Why, why, why was I such an idiot as to not write the name down?

I am more and more certain it was Italian, and that it began with a P. Any theories on what it could be?

Panerai ?? but i don't think they made rectangular watches.

Re: Pinning down a watch - red face, rectangular, ring a bel

For your budget's sake, Circe, I do hope it was not a Panerai! I think DF is right, though -- they don't make rectangular watches.

Here is one of the most complete lists of watch brands that I've found http://www.watchuseek.com/site/brandslist.htm#pbrands
Maybe this will trigger your memory.

ETA: Look under the Parmigiani link at this one (scroll to the last watch on the right -- stainless steel with red face):

Portree, you win at the "Finding Circe's Obscure dream Watch!" game. To collect your prize of eternal gratitude, coooooooooooooooome on down!

It's totally the Parmigiani Fleurier. The one I saw didn't have the diamond frame, but otherwise, it's the same watch. So far, no luck hunting it down, but if the diamond-studded one is 9Kish, I will guess the "plain" one will go for 6K. Time to start saving, I think ....

Ho-ma-god Circe, I'm in love! I love red! I want!

I used to have a watch fetish, but it's been long gone since I stopped wearing one after my long trip to Europe in 2003. Now ya got me drooling again!
