Hi all,

I''ve been browsing around on here for a while now looking up pink diamond threads, but there don''t seem be too many recently. So here''s a new question, all feedback welcome.

The background - I live in Sydney, Australia and am currently looking for an engagement ring to purchase over the next few months. I''ve done a fair bit of research on colourless diamonds, so no problems there.

However, I am curious about pink diamonds, and *real* information (ie specific pricing) appears to be a lot harder to find, especially on the net. I know they''re a LOT more expensive but I was thinking it may still be a viable option if I make a few compromises. Anyway I''ve been in to a few B&M stores listed on the Argyle diamond webiste (Modial Neuman, Hardy Brothers etc) but these stores are fairly high-end and the response is that for my budget of $15k I can generally get no more than a quarter carat. However, I assume this includes the usual mark-up and setting etc from a high end B&M, so my specific question is:

Can I get a 0.5 carat for ~$15k (= approx US $15k) in Australia? (of decent cut and clarity as well... although I understand these aren''t as important in a coloured diamond)

It doesn''t have to be overly pink - maybe 6p - and then this could be enhanced with a rose gold bezel setting.

Anyway, long story short - does anyone know if i''m in with a chance - maybe my budget has to stretch a little - or an I just way out, and they start at $30k or $40 or $50k? I thought living in Australia might help, but I''m not sure on that either - most of the pinks are probably exported in bulk.

Thanks all in advance!

Hey there! Why not consider a pink sapphire? I think they''re actually prettier because the color is richer.

Hi Sydney80,

Since you are in Australia, you might want to contact Garry Holloway (Garry H (Cut Nut)). He posts on the boards here and he is located in Australia and sells pink diamonds.

Also, to try to help in answering your question. Yes you "might" be able to find something near a half carat for the 15k price range, but you're definitely going to have to hunt because what is available, and the size, quality and intensity of color will vary widely. You didn't mention what shape you are looking for, rounds will be harder to come by, and more expensive if they are very saturated in color.

Here is one that has a nice color that might be of interest that falls into budget...

Hope this helps! Good luck in your search and be sure to come and share what you find or buy

I would give David at Diamonds by Lauren a call. He specializes in colored diamonds and I often see some wonderful pinks on his site. 877-952-8736

I''m not sure if this is allowed to mention, but you might want to see these threads: https://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/forum.asp?forumID=60

Your budget would easily afford you a much larger man made pink diamond. Admin remove if innappropriate.

Personally for 15k I''d take a nice big white or fancy yellow stone instead...but I realize some people just loooove the pinks.

Thanks all.

I''d prefer a diamond for the e-ring - whether that will be colourless and ~1.5 carats or pink and .5 is to be decided...

I''ll get in touch with Holloway diamonds - I''ve just recieved their catalogue and they have some nice designs. I am after a round, but am willing to settle on a princess if need be. Another option may be to augment a 1 carat colourless with a few .1 pinks.

I''d also prefer a natural diamond.

Anyway, the hunt continues!

Gary Holloway does some gorgeous work. I have had the enormous pleasure of visiting one of his stores a few times and the sparklies in there are just to die for!!!!

You won''t have to settle for a princess - Gary specialises in ideal cut stones (well, he did invent the Idealscope, clever guy

) so he will have lots of stunning rounds for you to chose from. I am sure he can incorporate some coloured stones into the design too, I think I remember a post of his showing pink diamonds a while ago (don''t quote me, can''t remember 100%)

Make an appointment with the man himself and get yourself on a cheapie flight to Melbourne and see some of his stuff in person. Precious Metals in a fabulous store, you can get lost in all the sparklies!

Would you look at that?! I just happen to have his catalogue in my desk draw

Not sure if it is the same one, I got mine around 6 months ago. Part of the Allure collection, there is a three stone ring, round brilliant in the centre, and two pink sides. Not sure if they are pink diamonds but that ring is beautiful! Maybe you could do something like that? There is a three stone princess cut ring, in the Holloway Diamonds Collection, princess centre and two pink stones either side. Very nice too, but the round three stone ring is just devine.

Well, you have helped me out a tad, as I have just seen a wedding band I would like to go and see in person!! Thanks for your help

hi

I had the same problem you went through.

I think its def do-able but you''ll need to consider man made diamonds ie real diamond just man made. I did heaps of research and came up with these guys after speaking to all the majors. Check our www.chatham.com. they make pink diamonds up to about .4. speak to serena chatham. gemesis used to do it but apparently it was too difficult.

I''m a techie so I love the idea of man made diamond. some people have hand ups believing its equivalent to CZ - i think thats baloney. its like a cultured pearl. The way I see it when the girls look it all they see is bling.

Function over form I say - forget spending $25k for a tiny little pinkish stone when you can get amazing intense pinks to go with the whites.

Suggest you spend the money on the white centres and get the cultured pinks from one of the vendors like chatham.

check out this link of the stuf I had made.

my wife loves it - she is dripping in pink and my cc wasn''t hit too bad

good luck
