Hi Everyone,

I'm in the midst of an asscher hunt. I've been working with Good Old Gold.

These are the specs I gave them and an $8k center stone budget.
H or higher
vs2 or higher
table 56-63
depth 60-70
polish/sym vg/vg
girdle: med or sl thick or thick
crown height 10%+
l/w of 1.00 to 1.03

They sent me a video link this morning to two stones. I'm currently awaiting all specs, prices and ASET images but I'd be curious to know what your impressions are from the video alone.

The two stones are a 1.2 G VVS2 being compared to a 1.3 I VVS2

Going out on a limb with my first opinion post as I am usually a lurker. IMO, the one on the right has better broad flashes of fire overall, which I found to be more pleasing to my eye.

Just based on the video, I prefer the color and shape of the stone on the left (which I presume is the G?) - but much prefer the performance of the stone on the right (the I color?). I wish the video included comparison shots on the hand and also in daylight (which I think they videotape standing inside the store right in front of the big front window).

Look forward to seeing the rest of the info on the stones - regardless, I am certain GOG will find the right Asscher for you.

I prefer the one on the right. I like the shape better, the clipped corners, I also like the windmills better and think it had better light performance.

Ask them which they think is better, the video is not super helpful; the second lighting environment you see the steps lighting up on the left, but the light is over the right one, which gives off too much glare.

Gosh, this is tough.... I still think I prefer the I though, love those windmills!

I like the I better, too.

Based on the video, I like the G better. It sings to me more than the I. However, the I has better/ larger windmills. The I will also be bigger, asschers face up smaller than rounds, so if u wanting to impress with size, then go for the I.

Thanks everyone.

I'm still very torn. I like them both.

Should I ask to see more stones? I'm pretty set on staying w Good Old Gold though. They sell Beverley K and I know I'm getting one of their halo settings (though I don't know which one quite yet).

Hi purplepear,

Is there a time frame for this project? It sounds as if you are still trying to decide on the stones. Take your time as it is a big purchase. Usually one stone "speaks" to you/chooses you or takes your breath away when you see it. One of these may not be THE ONE.

You can ask to see more stones, however, there may be a limit on the videos that GOG will do for you. You will have to choose based on the reports and images, which is what used to be done. GOG is great in providing videos and some vendors (James Allen comes to mind) are now starting to do the same, but not in a comparison kinda way like GOG.

Post more info when you get them. love looking at them.

I prefer the I from the video, but after looking at the links to the stones have some concerns about the ASET's. I'm no expert, but what does the large white area in the center mean. Maybe one of the stepcut experts could address that.

Also look at the megascope results on the G. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable with that. The I doesn't have a megascope. I don't think either of these are great stones. I know Jon is known for his skill at picking stepcuts, I would ask him to keep looking. Maybe you can post the stones & ASET's here before you request the video to make sure they are contendors.
