Is it important to have an appraiser be local? I know that some people here have had their appraisals done remotely by appraisers who frequent this board and I think I might go that route as well. I''m sure either way would be fine, but which way would you pick?
I saw the ring first at WF then had it sent to D. Atlas where Chris did my appraisal and he was awesome. It was sent without any papers and he graded it very accurately given that it was mounted. In my case, I''d only wanted verification that the stone was as described in the cert and for insurance purposes so I didn''t really need to meet with the appraiser. Good luck with your decision.
I don''t think it''s as important for the appraiser to be local as it is for them to have a great reputation, as many of the recommended appraisers here do.
I used the jewelry judge for my appraisal. Geoff Nelson works out of Alhambra and has been OK''d by D. Atlas when I first mentioned him. you can find them at
I used Richard Sherwood who is also not local to me (no local independants in my area). I was very satisfied with the workup he did for me. I highly recommend him.
I''ve read alot of good things about Nancy Stacy. If she''s local and you feel more comfortable being there then that is probably a good option for you. Good luck!
