Is it important to have an appraiser be local? I know that some people here have had their appraisals done remotely by appraisers who frequent this board and I think I might go that route as well. I''m sure either way would be fine, but which way would you pick?

I had it sent in locally so I could see it before I purchased. Best of luck.

I too would want to see it first. Have you checked for appraisers in your area?

The local appraiser I would use would Nancy Stacy in Walnut Creek, CA. I guess having read so many posts from say Rockdoc, it''s hard not to be a fan.

Nancy Stacy has an excellent rep here on Pscope- I know many here have used her and were more than satisfied. If she is local, perfect!

give her a call if you need her soon. last time i talked to her i think she was going to be on vacation for a bit either soon or currently.

I saw the ring first at WF then had it sent to D. Atlas where Chris did my appraisal and he was awesome. It was sent without any papers and he graded it very accurately given that it was mounted. In my case, I''d only wanted verification that the stone was as described in the cert and for insurance purposes so I didn''t really need to meet with the appraiser. Good luck with your decision. :)

I don''t think it''s as important for the appraiser to be local as it is for them to have a great reputation, as many of the recommended appraisers here do.

I used the jewelry judge for my appraisal. Geoff Nelson works out of Alhambra and has been OK''d by D. Atlas when I first mentioned him. you can find them at

best of luck!!!

I used Richard Sherwood who is also not local to me (no local independants in my area). I was very satisfied with the workup he did for me. I highly recommend him.
I''ve read alot of good things about Nancy Stacy. If she''s local and you feel more comfortable being there then that is probably a good option for you. Good luck!
