I've settled on the perfect setting and now need something to go in it. We are going with the Mark Morrell Petite Torchiere(sooooo beautiful) with the surprise diamonds. Our budget is $7500 and with the setting taking up approx. $2300, that leaves $5200 for the centre stone. The cut is very important to us so we are willing to sacrifice the other grades to have an excellent cut stone. We'd be comfortable with G/H, VS2/SI 1(as long as it's eye clean) and as close to 1 carat as possible. I've tried to do searches to find stones with fluoresence as it's something we are interested in but can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Thanks for any possible suggestions.

I hope Wishful doesn't mind but I borrowed a picture of her absolutely stunning ring to show the Mark Morrell setting.

The stones we''ve found so far that fall into our ideal ranges are usually around .93 carats. Would going with a stone with fluoresence lower the cost? I guess the only other area where we could drop is color if we want to increase the size(though this is not really something we want to do).

So fluoresence increases the price? We will most likely be using a bank wire so how much would that affect the budget for the stone?

I would ask for the diamonds you are interested in, I think the discount is in the region of 3% for bank wire but I am not sure so you would need to ask.

Price: $5,471
(Bank wire price: $5,286)

Fluorescence doesn't necessarily increase the price, this page has some good info. http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fluor.asp

Hey Edmontonflora,

I was looking for very similar criteria as you and came across this diamond that is very near to your criteria, with the exception of it being I color.

This diamond was on my short list, but I''m not sure how I felt about flouresence. I am actually really interested on how your final decision turns out as I am in the exact same price range as you, looking for the nearly the same sized diamond with similar specs (I have been looking at I''s and J''s as well though), and to boot I''m also from Edmonton!

Keep us posted on what you decide on and how it all turns out!

I know this site is not used to sell items, but there was a pricescoper that was selling a torchiere w/blue florescent with side stones w/florescence as well. I do however believe it was the classic torchiere and not the petite and it was in your price range. The diamond size was 1.28 ct. I would do a search and try to find the post.

Sorry if this email is inappropriate. The poor guy''s engagement fell through.

If I remember one of Wink''s video correctly, and assuming the rap report still hold true as of today, most likely not, the D-E stones will have a discount of 15%, the lower the color grade the less discount until it starts rising a little in stones the K grade and lower. So in your color range there should still be a slight discount with blue fluor, but definitely check that it is not yellow fluor. Good luck.

I was just checking Mark Morrell''s website and his prices for signature settings have declined a little due to the recent drops in platinum prices. I believe the price of a petite torchiere is $1950. At least that leaves a little bit more dollars for the center stone.

Thanks for the suggestion korie83. After looking at a few other options and speaking with WF, we''ve decided to reserve that stone. We would''ve bought it 2 months ago when the Canadian dollar was still almost on par with the US $ but now we have to wait and see how things play out. As it stands, we would have to fork out an additional $1000+ to get that stone compared to 2 months ago!! I think we will put down 20% on it to hold it and wait to see what happens over the couple of weeks. If the Cdn dollar doesn''t bounce back, we have no choice since we don''t want to wait much longer. Fingers crossed that it''ll come back up a bit...
