Ok, from reading the numerous posts here I went with a diamond from engagementringsdirect.com (ERD) and got it appraised at gemappraisers in Philly (Dave Atlas'' company, but I worked with Chris DiCamillo). Mark at ERD sent me a few certs and brought some diamonds in but passed on the first few saying they didn''t look very good to him, until he finally found what he considered a good diamond (I trust his judgement since he''s the pro).

He sent it down to Chris at Gemappraisers who I met today in Philly to take a look at the rock. Chris was very nice and answered all my questions. There is a small cloud but I could only see it under the 40x microscope. Chris rated it as an Ideal cut and said it was an excellent looking stone.

Here are the Sarin specs:
Princess Cut
1.02 Carat
5.36x5.43x3.87
Depth: 3.82 - 72.2%
Table: 3.81 - 71.1%
Pavil: 3.03 - 56.5%
Pav Angle: 63.7
Crown: 0.68 - 12.7%
Crown Angle: 49.8
Girdle: 3.0% - Medium

GIA specs:
5.43x5.38x3.89
1.01 Carat
Depth: 72.3%
Table: 70%
Girdle: SL TK - TK
Polish: Ex
Symmetry: VG
Clarity: VS2
Color: G

The only thing I''m not really certain about are the Pavilion Angle and Crown Angle. Are these within "Good" parameters for a princess?

Now I''ve got to pick out a setting and see what the finished product looks like.

i''m inclined to trust Chris and Mark.

Princess cuts are kind of hard to judge just from the numbers, so it is nice that you had some professionals helping you and that you got to see it in person. I''ll bet it is a real beauty! Good luck with finding a setting and don''t forget to come back and post pictures for us!!!
