hi!
i''ve attached a picture of my new emerald cut ring; it''s the only picture i have so far. i took the pic while on vacation and the quality isn''t great but you get the idea.
the ring is set in a temporary (maybe permanent??) solitaire setting. what i''m considering is keeping the setting (maybe upgrade to platinum) and adding a wedding band: 5 or 7 stone Tiffany style shared prong round brilliant band in plat. or 18k white gold (duplicated from Tiffany but made by Whiteflash for half the price).
at first i wanted to do up the setting and go without a wedding band. then the salespersons in Tiffany and Bailey Banks & Biddle suggested i keep it in the solitaire b/c it''s so pretty on its own, and go with the shared prong 5- or 7-stone band in rounds which looked fantastic paired with the EC. my EC sparkles wonderfully and then when i put it with the round, WOW. i loved the classic look of the two rings together and also separately.
i love the shared-prong style too. it wasn''t anything i''d have considered had i not seen it in person and tried it on my hand. the two rings were Memoire and Tiffany. but i''ll be happy to accept a custom copy from Whiteflash (LOL) too.
okay, to refresh, here are the stats on my lovely EC:
2.28 ct
F
VS 1
Depth 61.8 %
Table 72 %
Girdle Thin
so the table is on the large side and i can also tell that the crown height is not very high. nevertheless, this ring is verrrry lively and sparkly! i am thrilled with it. i saw other ECs at the better jewelry stores and i can tell you that my stone garnered compliments at Bailey, B & B and also in Tiffany, where it really mattered. i compared mine to similar one in Tiffany and was relieved to see that mine holds up just fine in side by side comparison to a Tiffany emerald cut diamond
i purchased it from the local b & m store although i would have certainly purchased the stone mark T. had been holding for me had this special stone not been calling for me since the moment i first lay eyes on it during a ''per chance'' visit to the jewelry store, looking for oval cut or round brilliant stones. it stopped me in my tracks and captivated me. i kept visiting it with no intention of buying it, just looking. i was determined to get one that met every requirement of the "perfect" emerald cut stone - - but as all my wonderful advisors always said, "look at the numbers but also trust your eyes". and although i was quite close to buying one sight unseen from the very nice mark t., the day i walked in to the store and said "i am here to visit my emerald cut," i thought, " you know jeannie, you could just buy this stone and be done with it." hmm. what a concept. i was afraid to make a mistake; having researched so carefully. in the end, i gave in to my own eyes and my heart, and within a few hours, it was done. i was wearing the ring and heading to the airport for my vacation.
the guy in Tiffany suggested i even keep the white gold setting as is, until it starts getting faded, as he thinks it looks very nice and the simple four prong style complements the shared-prong ring quite nicely.
well anyway. something to think about. i did want to share a picture of my beauty with you all, though. i hope it turns out; it was kind of blurry once i transferred it from the camera, but you get the idea.
if anyone has any comments on the setting or wedding band idea, just chime in. i love all your thoughts and opinions!
