Just trying out a Canon SD 850IS camera.

How do you get the close up pictures of things (flowers, diamonds, anything!). I tend to lose focus at closer distances and don''t want to open the package the manual comes in yet. I bought an open box model just to try it out so the manual is a last resort.

How lazy huh?

Another thing to mention is that cropping is a great tool. When I set my camera (Canon G9) on macro and then have if focus on the ring, it takes up only a very small portion of the viewfinder. I snap the photo and then zoom in and crop considerably afterwards. I know nothing about the model you mentioned but most cameras have high enough megapixels that you can do some serious zooming and cropping as long as things are in focus.

I agree fully with the above post.

I find that using macro mode with my cannon blocks a lot of the light from reaching the subject.
