Photos of cabachon earrings?

Does anyone have any? I'm considering getting a couple of pairs (probably tsavorite and sapphire studs) to put into the 3 pointer IDJ jackets that are all the rage around here. I've seen cabachon rings, but never earrings. Is there a reason for this? Is it a bad idea? Anyone have any photos? Thanks!
 
Not at all! I think it's just a little unusual on the boards, because many cutters prefer to facet their best material (excluding stones like moonstone, which have traditionally been cabochon-cut, although even there, you're starting to see more and more of it), and cabochon stones tend to be more included. And, well ... people here tend to post their "best," I've noticed.

I have a few pairs of cabochon earrings lying around - will snap a few shots as soon as I can find them!

P.S. - I think putting cabochon studs in jackets is a genius idea. In my head, it looks wonderfully rich and baroque - like something a Tudor would have liked!
 
Maybe you already have a source for them (?) but if not, I will forewarn you is that you can't always find an exact size you want in pairs of colored stones especially if you are going for a relatively rare cut like cabochon. You'd also have to be careful how they were set in order to fit inside the jackets. I love the idea, though!
 
You should ask in the colored stone forum. And I think cabochon earrings would be nice.
 
I love it! I actually just bought Snooper's jackets from DB and was looking to put some cabs in there till I can find studs (or better yet borrow my MIL's!).

I would highly recommend contacting Rick at Art Cut Gems. He has lots of cabs usually- and at great prices. Barry at ACStones is another one I would talk too. I bought a pair of turqouis cabs from him and love them! They look great with the diamond jackets- but unfortunately are the wrong size!

Yenny_ I know these aren't studs but they are still cabs- and I personally love what the PSer did with them. They are my inspiration for my own detachable earrings.

Thanks for digging up those posts/photos. I may have found a pair of cabs to start my "collection". Now I need to get a quote for setting them in white gold. Once I receive them, I hope to take them with me to NYC and try them in the jackets at IDJ in person. :bigsmile:

Hold the phone, little missy!! Weren't you just debating about keeping the gorgeous emerald ring because it would take away from your diamond budget??? hmmm.... I think you have a money tree in your back yard and are holding out on us!! Show us the Money tree!!! :lol:

Yeah, yeah...I know! :oops: I need to force myself to be more disciplined. Grrr...nope, no money tree here...just a very hardworking hubby who doesn't like to say no to me. Of course, I should be more averse to putting him in that position. :lol:

I'm about the pull the trigger, but I have a question. If I purchase 6mm round cabachons, will they fit in the jackets for 6mm rounds or will I need a larger jackets, meaning that if I want the 6mm jacket, I should order 5mm cabs?

I think it will entirely depend on the settings the cabs are set in. It is a little risky when you don't know how much room the setting will take up. I am not even sure how cab studs would be set!
 
I guess I'll call Yeukitel and ask him if he can set them for me to make sure they'll fit. I'm going to NYC in a few weeks so hopefully I can pick them up along with the jackets when I'm there.
 
Are they set with prongs? I guess they are.
