I discovered about 2 weeks ago that my wedding photographer has made an unauthorized charge to my credit card. I still owed my remaining balance but I told the photographer that it would not be going on the same card as the deposit and that I would get back to him with the payment information. I still had about a week to pay the balance before my due date. I have tried calling, leaving messages, and emailing the photographer to try to tell them to refund the amount they had charged my card so that I could pay for it in a different way. Its been 2 weeks and they have shown no signs of life... their voicemail is even full so I can''t leave another message. They were also supposed to email me a list of what was included in my photography package because they changed their website and it was no longer listed on there. They never got back to me on that. They are also supposed to frame one of our engagement portraits to display at the wedding but I have heard no word on that since I emailed them our photo choice. So far, the only service they have provided us is doing our engagement shoot.
So I called my credit card company to dispute the current charge and discovered that there was another unauthorized charge just 5 days before that! SO I have decided to dispute ALL charges- the deposit and the 2 unauthorized ones. I feel like I don''t want this person at my wedding if he is being non-communicative and partaking in what I consider fraudulent activity with my credit card. My wedding is 11 days away.

So my question is:
I have filed all of the disputes, but what are the chances that they will refund my money for all 3? I feel pretty certain that they will for the last 2, but what about my deposit?

Yikes!!

But only 11 days away? What are you going to do about a photographer if you fire them (which is what it sounds like)?!

I found a photographer today! We are keeping it simple... 4 hours of photograhy, they'll edit the photos for color and light, and put them on CDs for us to do whatever we'd like. They have a photojournlistic style (they shoot for the local paper) which I like better than the old photographer anyway.

I couldn't take a chance on the old photographer not showing up.... because to me, it sounds like they packed up and went to Mexico.

Yeah. They totally sound shady! That is so weird.

Yikes, that''s scary! I wouldn''t want someone like that doing my photography either, so I''m really glad you found someone else. I hope everything (money and photos) works out well.

Wow! All these things going wrong around here is crazy!

I agree that you are right to dispute the charges...I really hope you get your money back, and congrats on finding a new photographer so quickly!

Wow...So this is why everyone recommends paying by credit card...I''m glad it worked out in the end for you. Kudos to you for handling it beautifully! I would have freaked out and cried.

So I just went to the craigslist site for the photographers town and typed in their business name and a listing came up! This poor girl is trying to get a hold of them to get her wedding photos back but they won''t answer her calls or emails and she said she went by their studio and they have packed up and left! FI was going to go by there tomorrow to talk to them and still plans on going to see everything for himself. These people are ridiculous!!! I sent the girl an email letting her know that she wasn''t alone in her hunt for the photographers.

Also, the credit card disputes will take 6-8 weeks to process. I really hope I get ALL of my money back!

Wow that girl needs to sue! Woohoo I love a good court show, sorry. I am so sorry this is still going on, but I am glad you found a new photog! Sorry I am not of much help regarding whether or not you''ll get all of your money back, I am not sure.

OMG I''m so glad I started researching more... I found another review of their business on a random website and said they haven''t recieved their photos yet and its been 6 months since their wedding. They also stated that the photographer was recently on "Christina''s Court" TV show and lost his case! I looked it up on the tv show site and it said he didn''t show up for the wedding!

Oh dear, this just gets worse and worse...

Can you go to the police about this?

wow thankfully you found all this out before your wedding and not afterwards! I hope that you get all your money back soon!

FI wants to go to the police if they actually have moved when he goes by there tomorrow. I can tell he''s pretty upset about not getting our engagement pictures. The photographer posted the small proofs on shutterfly but they have "PROOF" stamped all across them. I have copied them all and saved them on my computer in case we can''t get them from the photog. I think I could possibly photoshop the "proof" out of them and do small prints of them... like a 3x5. But its illegal to reproduce them... does it even matter anymore though?

Oh No! I have so many bad experiences with ''''When people don''t call back....'''' I am sure you will get your money back through the credit card company, but it BURNS me up! There are so many dishonest people out there.

I''m so sorry!

But, at least you found out before your wedding. I feel awful for the poor people who have no pictures - what a nightmare.

How awful! I just can''t understand the kind of person that would do such a thing. (We had something similar happen with a venue here.)

Thanks for all of the sympathies, ladies!

In a last ditch effort to get them to communicate, I sent an email late last night to them demanding that they return my calls in regard to my wedding and fraudludent activity on my card. Well, what do you know? The owners wife emailed me back and acted like she had NO CLUE what was going on and could I please catch her up on everything?. She is lying, she handles most of their business. I think they finally realized I was serious and they are scared to lose anymore money or be reported to credit agencies. I told her it was ridiculous that I even had to explain things since I already emailed and left several messages but I told her the (short) whole story and demanded a full refund. I also let her know that FI was at their location at that very moment and saw that they had left and will be contacting the leasing number for the center. I also did a TON of internet stalking last night and discovered that they seem to have an awful lot of phone numbers and addresses posted on various wedding websites and search engines. I think these people have made it a habit of moving around often due to bad business. *sigh*

How can people live their lives this way?

Report them to the Better Business Bureau. It may save a bride in the future from the some of the same troubles.
