Pet peeves - what are yours?

People that don''t know the rules of the road. This includes cyclists and pedestrians.

People that pay more attention to gadgets or people in there car, instead of drivers, and people outside their car.

People that walk their dogs on the owner''s lazy retractable leashes and aren''t midful of cars, cyclists, or other people. Companies that make these leashes for any dogs over 15-20 pounds... come on now, your little fine print reading that these leashes can cause severe burns or REMOVE fingers really isn''t marketing a responsible product - and YES - this does happen.

The nasty people that treat a public restroom like they are better than everyon else, and then proceed to urinate all over the seat and floor - or leave their butt doileys on the seat after they are done. 1) These things are not for multiple uses and 2) that toilet wasn''t nasty before your gross self PEED all over it! ......and when you unsuspectingly put a butt doiley over someone else''s pee and then the thing sticks to your butt... OMG SOOO FREAKING GROSS... come ladies, we don''t have a sprinkler system or have to work on AIM!

Crop dusters.

It got so bad in my office building that the management printed up a sign for all the women''s restroom stalls:

"If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie"


I''m still in the habit of grabbing toilet paper to wipe the seat BEFORE I put the seat protector down.

people who let their dogs wander around the neighborhood alone. I keep mine fenced and SCOOP. If I wanted to scoop after another dog, I''d adopt another one.

People who unload groceries to check out and then run to pick up stuff they forgot. While we all stand there waiting.

People who insist on wearing perfume to Yom Kippur services. Bad enough to fast for 24+ hours without having to sneeze through the entire 5 hour service.

People who wander aimlessly on the sidewalk and step into the road just often enough to scare you.

People who buy something to share and spend 10 minutes arguing over who is going to pay what and which one paid the extra penny last time. (I do not miss my time as a barista)

People who open a $10 bottle of wine to serve us with dinner when we just gave them 3 $30 bottles of wine

People who show up for dinner and then won''t eat anything because they are "on a diet"

People talking on their cell phones at the gym or on the train. Geez, everyone can hear you!


When people text or email me with a question that they could have just as easily found online. For example-- someone emails me to ask for a link to a certain website. I have to Google the site and paste the link to their email. They could have just as easily Googled the site for themselves. This type of thing happens a lot for some reason and I don''t want to be snarky about it so I do it, even though I think its silly.

Just looking back through this thread. I''m really not that sensitive to stuff. I think I am very flexible and patient and tolerate a lot before stuff bothers me.


Everything I listed is stuff that happens ALL THE TIME.

It just seems like stuff that used to be just common courtesy is gone. It is seen as "old fashioned". People just don''t do it anymore. Maybe because they aren''t taught.

Isn''t the standard that when someone gives you wine, you serve it that evening?

Hi,
One of my pet peeves is having to read little sayings below peoples posts. Some are positioned in the middle of the page and I am forced to read them each time I read the persons post. Elfs, Einstein, things of no consequence that I can tell. Please put them at the bottom and change frequently. At least we don''t have to read the same thing over & over.
Yes I know I don''t have to read them but its hard to remember whose has the little sayings.

We all know VPL (visible panty line) is a big no no...but even worse, is when women wear thong underwear, and for some reason their butt crack begins to suck in their yoga pants...it''s like they''re disappearing into some great big vortex of doom...if you''re behind them, it looks terrible...ICK

I also don''t like to walk into a public restroom, open the stall door ever so tentatively, and feel like I''m attending a "floater" crime scene...ICK! FLUSH WILL YA!!!

I just hosted a barbeque for 30 people. It HAD to be potluck (not my choice -- it was a community thing people are trying to make a yearly event and when I volunteered to host they said I had to do potluck). I provided the location, tables & chairs, paper plates & utensils, and the chicken we grilled. Everyone else was supposed to bring salads, sides, desserts, & drinks.

What did these 30 people bring?
One small loaf of sliced bread.
One small (1 pound) tray of raw carrots & celery.
One bowl (again, 1 pound) of cut fruit.
And about 3 pounds of a store bought salad. (same salad, 1 pound containers -- 3 people brought this)

What did I provide:
30 pounds of chicken
50 pounds charcoal
Chafing dish FULL of rice.
100 fresh baked (that morning) rolls
5 different salads (about 5-7 pounds each)
Fresh squeezed lemonade. (by hand 10 lbs. lemons)
2 cases bottled water
Fresh brewed iced tea
Veggie trays
Pickles & olives


Sorry for the semi-rant. I HATE potlucks.

People who do RSVP but then skp the event (without telling you)

People who RSVP no and then call the morning of the event and say they changed their mind (or just show up)

People who accept a dinner invite and make other plans with someone else for later the same evening. Who show up, eat a little, and then have to leave 20 minutes after getting there to meet the other people.

People who show up to a dinner and then spend the meal on their cell phone verifying the plans for later (see above) while everyone listens to them say "this shouldn''t take long"

People who invite you as a guest to a meal and then spend the day calling asking you to go to the store and buy this, bring that, cook this at home, bring that to them (now), help clean the kitchen first, pick the kids up for them.....
If they wanted someone to help them prepare the meal, why not ask to begin with?

People who invite you to a meal just for the wine (or other food) you bring.

OMG ___ SOOO TRUE! We have what I call scavengers that come from the woodworks on food days. They never bring in ANYTHING, but are the first to take stuff. Then thre are people that NEVER EVER CONTRIBUTE... not money, nothing, and they are still the first to line up to serve themselves. I''ve asked if we can change the potlucks to something else, because it always seems like there are 3-4 people supplying the food for 30... and then when you get tired of bringing things in... you "ruin someone''s birthday/graduations/shower/get well paty" WHAT THE!?!?!

Nope. That was in "Dear Abby" this week. The wine is a gift to the host. The host may serve it, or not.

But if I''ve brought wine, the host has always offered our wine to us.

LOL, we call this "Hungry bum".

Mine are very much traffic related - I hate it when people drive under the speed limit.
When people who are changing lanes/pulling into a turning lane don''t move their car entirely into the other lane as quickly as they can and instead drive over the two lanes for a little while.

When people don''t know the social niceties for a certain situation - eg when exiting a bus that you have to open the doors yourselves it is expected that you hold the door open for the person behind you, who will then take the door from you and hold it open for the person behind them. This way the door doesn''t get slammed in someone''s face and no-one gets stuck holding it. It annoys me when the person in front does not hold it open for me, or the person behind does not take it from me.

When in the line for the bus, people cut in front to buy tickets too early - there is an accepted point when you are able to know that no-one ahead of you needs to buy a ticket when you can break away from the line and go into the seperate line for people who need to buy a ticket.\

And I hate hate hate people who show no interest in anyone but themselves.

when people say things like, "EYE-talians" (for italians), "A-rabs" (for Arabs)

when people repeatedly name their kids the most common names going (won''t give examples in order to not offend, in case someone here''s named their kid that) and then say something like, "it''s so ORIGINAL. i think we made it up. i''ve never heard the name before." just wait til your li''l (insert name here) hits daycare or kindergarten and there are 3 others in his/her class.

Also, people who litter. And people who spit on the ground. And people who ride a bike or walk on roads with no sidewalks at night.
