After several weeks of searching for the "perfect" antique style cushion cut diamond I think I have found the one. Perry at Leon Mege has been great (as have many other of the popular cushion vendors ie GOG, JBEG, ERD...) and found me a 2.17ct J SI1. In person it sparkles amazingly and is completely eye clean, even table under loop (probably more of a VS1-2 than an SI1).

Would love to hear people's thoughts on this stone, major concerns are color J, lack of ASET imaging and comparison to peoples experience in versus AVC. link to video below and report.

Do you LOVE it? That's what's important!

I can't tell too much from the video, but it looks good from what I can see?

Did you want the stone to be upgradeable? Leon offers a lifetime upgrade if you buy the stone from him, but the stone has to be I/SI1 or higher.....just in case that matters to you!

Yes that is incredibly important and I do love it. They have guaranteed the stone for lifetime buyback/upgrade even though it's a J stone.

It looks beautiful to me!

I think it's fantastic. The cut is:  and the "very large" culet:

Wow, Perry has some great source(s) for these beautiful stones.

I'll probably never own a diamond like that but I know beauty when I see it. I'd take that in a heartbeat!

To my eyes it's a beauty!! I love chunky chunky chunky!!

Very very nice. It reminds me of the most beautiful lead crystal amped up to 16 (because 11 isn't far enough past 10).

It is definitely of a certain style, but if you love the look, this stone seems amazingly pretty.

It looks like a really beautiful stone. Do you love it? That's all that matters! How would you set it?

Thank you to everyone for the responses, you have reassured what I was already feeling. I agree, i can't stop starring at the chunky facets and the stone just speask to me.

Regarding setting thats a good question. I am looking at Tacori #2638RDP75 or something similar. Want the antique pave with millgrain look in a solitaire setting. May have to go custom to get exactly what I like.

Any other thoughts?

That diamond looks like a winner to me. It really is beautiful. And Leon has amazing settings to put it in. He set mine and I am SOOOOOO happy. I have an antique 3 carat cushion that is similar specs. Love it!

I think it's beautiful!

I really love it! Not only the specs but the shape of the cushion... I am new to the cushion world and I had no idea how much the shapes differ from cushion-to-cushion but this shape of cushion is my favorite and the most beautiful in my opinion...

Delicious!!!! :lickout: :lickout:

So I went through with it and purchased the stone! looks amazing! I had David Atlas (highly recommended - thanks so much) appraise it and actually graded the stone as 2.17 J VS2 (rather than stated SI1) Ex/VG. I know there are not many ASET images of Perry/Leon Meges stones so I figured I would share:

Do a search on PS for someone who had a 5c. J from Leon Mege custom 5th anniversary ring and you will KNOW you made the right choice with the J color. Your stone is awesome.

Love this custom ring from Mark Broumand...very unique and dainty and I'm sure Leon can make one similar, changing the basket to be similar to the Tacori. Never seen anything like it. Mark's site rocks for seeing the rings on the hand as he has videos. Check it out....so many styles of rings...I just found it yesterday.

Congrats and happy life!

Looks great. Please come back with pictures once it's set!!

SERIOUSLY what a GORGEOUS stone!!!!!!!

Just look at that faceting and the culet. It's truly gorgeous. And where on earth are the inclusions? No wonder it re-appraised as VS. You are so lucky.

I may be the person with the 5ct fifth anniversary stone *blush* from Leon. And I have to say I am in love with it. Hope you love your stone just as much.
