But I tried to patch the aforementioned "ripped inner thigh" jeans this evening bec I only have one other pair of them and they fit really well, and they don't make this style exactly the same anymore (cheaper thinner material and not quite cut the same) so I don't wanna just toss them, and thought "hey I probably should put something hard surface below it so it's smooth" so I got my "not supposed to melt even at 500 degrees" small plastic cutting board and used that. Well, IT MELTED. TO MY JEANS LEG. Smooth!

I googled "removed melted plastic from clothes" and saw that you can use brown paper bags and the iron to get it off, so I spent another half hour doing that and I think I got it all. Whew! I need to wash them so hopefully the patch holds. I patched from the inside.

Re: Perhaps Im just cheap...

I would have done the same!!! I wear my jeans for like 7 years before ill get rid of them. You break them in and its so hard to start over

OMG-I know. When I used to wear jeans I would wear them to death and when they ripped I just couldn't get rid of them. A favorite old broken in pair of jeans, well, there's not much that's more comfie! I had quite a few pairs that looking back should have gone to the garbage way before they did-patches and all lol! :cheeky:

ETA: Niel-7 years that's nothing! I had jeans that are probably older than you! Wow, I cannot believe I just became one of those people uttering that phrase. But seriously, I kept jeans for over 20 years. Yup, you heard that right. Can you imagine the wear through on those babies?!

I would have done the same thing, too. I don't like shopping and it's hard to find jeans that fit well.

    youre right! the reason 7 years is my limit is because i was 16 7 years ago. I dont think i could fit into jeans any earlier than that!

 I'll check back in 13 years with you! :D

That was a good story. Impressive that you got the plastic out.

I still have a jean long coat that was my mother's when she was single! That makes it around 37 years old. I haven't worn it in a few years because of my weight but pretty soon it will be back in use.

I am hoping that when I wash them it's really back to normalish. There's just one little spot that is questionable and it's over the patch area so Im not SUPER worried. But before I got it off...a giant 3" by 1.5" splotch of light blue plastic.

My husband was like "so you're making us breathe that toxic plastic? Thanks dear!"

God, I love my jeans. I've had the one pair for 5 years now, it's like second skin  and one time I was raving about them to my friend. She's like "you know what happens when you REALLY love a pair of jeans? The store stops making them. It's a law." HAHA I promptly ran out and bought an identical pair. I'd totally spend hours getting plastic outta them like you.

I am ticked they don't make them quite the same. The style number is the same, the name of the style is the same, but they are NOT the same.

On a related note, I also extend the life of my shoes by getting toe taps and heel caps when the toe and / or heel area starts to wear. I love my cobbler! When I bring shoes in for taps or caps, he also spiffies up the rest of the shoes and makes them look new.

So much cheaper to repair shoes instead of getting new ones. Plus, you don't have to shop and be tempted by all the new shoes. Also, it can take a while and some discomfort to break in new shoes, and some are just never comfortable. I call them shoes made for sitting, not walking.

ETA: Obviously those are men's shoes in the video, but the concept is the same for women's shoes. I get toe taps and heel caps for my boots, and get the entire little bottom black part of the heel replaced on high heels.

You should stitch the patch(es) on to reinforce them, Ame, if you didn't already do that. Iron-on will eventually let go, is my experience.

I haven't patched any jeans lately, but I did remove and replace the zipper on two pairs. Kind of tedious, but it can be done. I patched twin holes on the inside thighs of a pair of sweatpants because it's too late in the year and WalMart is sold out of $5 sweatpants, my brand of choice.

Thanks for the laugh today!

Glad you (hopefully) fixed them!

Well, I need to figure out a way to do so without making the stitching obvious...I might take these in to Nordstrom and ask them to help me do a better job. The alterations people are gonna be like "lady you are nuts."
