I am still thrilled with my ring set and know we got an incredible deal (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-e-ring-has-arrived.173265/), but now do need to add one caveat. It's finally sunny where I am, and I have been gazing deeply into the diamonds of my rings, and some of my 2mm accent diamonds are peppered. One accent diamond on my e-ring is practically grey from all the internal flaws. :(( It's on the side, but now that I know it's there, I am a bit peeved. I had asked for eye-clean diamonds, but I am told that VS2-SI1 accent diamonds can still have visible carbon spots. Technically, if following a very strict standard though, you shouldn't be able to see carbon spots in an SI1 accent diamond, right? Or am I wrong? I do have eagle-eye vision for ferreting out flaws. This will probably bother me in the long run. So, how much does it cost to replace a few 2mm accent diamonds set in platinum? Please help! And if you are in Los Angeles, I would be grateful for a recommendation to a skilled jeweler, preferably one that is near OCD with their attention to detail!

are you sure your ring is totally clean? you may just be seeing dirt.

No, unfortunately, one accent diamond on my e-ring in particular, is practically grey/darker than the other diamonds. I have seen carbon spots before in larger accent diamonds, so I do know how to recognize them. And there is no reason there should be dirt given that I have not worn them out, save to take pictures. :(

This is a difficult one, as you are upfront about having been on a tight budget and Elan having done all he could to get you lots of bling for a small price tag. In situations like that, it doesn't surprise me to see a shortcoming - something has to give to make an impossible job possible. If it bothers you that much, the repair/replacement shouldn't be all that expensive...depending on your definition of "expensive." ;)) I would avoid going to another jeweler and give the original manufacturer a chance to do the repairs. Explain that a few stones have niggling inclusions and you'd like them replaced with stones that are YOUR definition of eye clea, for an additional fee - and let him know what distance you need them to be clean from. With how accommodating he was during the creation, you should give him a chance to make it perfect.

totally agree- the vendor may have given you the bet he could for your budget.

Contact the vendor and discuss your issue.

Yes, I would contact the vendor about switching out stones that you are unhappy with. As for the VS2-SI1 grade, it probably depends on who is doing the grading. I'm guessing that they are not certified so they can potentially be called anything a jeweler wishes.

I hope the vendor is able to rectify this to your satisfaction. There may be a bit of an upcharge but it would probably be worth it so that you would be totally happy with your ring.

Thanks for the advice, justginger, Amys Bling, and Missgotrocks! I just spoke to Elan, and he said that he was sorry and would be happy to exchange out the bothersome stones for a small fee while I wait. Such a relief as I love looking at my rings and this one rock in particular catches by eye each time, like a little dark storm cloud! Maybe it's my tendency to over-interpret the symbolism of things like this, but I don't want an "angry" diamond in my set! :o

So glad it can be rectified! Let us know how it goes!

Justginger, Amysbling, MissGotRocks-- I want to thank you!!! I went over to Elan today, and Elan is such a sweetie-- he ended up waiving the costs of replacing the two stones we agreed upon changing earlier, and a very minor fee for the third one, which I requested he change at the last minute because of the size of the pepper and accent stone location somewhat near the front. I am now 100% happy with my ring and incredibly glad that I went back to Elan instead of some other random vendor! Thank you again very much for your sound advice. :)

So glad to hear that you were able to resolve the gray stone and get replacement ones - with minimal upheaval! Always great when the story ends well - happy for you!

Glad to hear you are happy!

Good for you - so glad it worked out!

Just looked at your thread on your ring...you have a lovely set!

It is a lovely set :)

Thanks tyty333 and Amysbling! I am very happy with the set now and considering our small budget, think we got the most bling for our buck that we could! :D
