People vary. Some are idiots

Yes, I most certainly agree, this guy wasn't playing with a full deck. People do vary and sometimes I just don't know where the h.....lll they're coming from,

Same can be said for those who flew in wing suits and crashed into mountains or buildings.

DK

I did learn something new - there is a whole club of people that believe the earth is flat that funded that stupidity.....

My son came home the other day from tennis practice and told me his coach believes this as well.

I wanted to call and politely but firmly ask him to keep his unscientific opinions to himself. My son, however, just said - don't bother, mom, I just smile, nod, mumble and go pick up balls in the other half of the court.

Important life lesson learned! Proud mom moment.

“Survivors aren't always the strongest; sometimes they're the smartest, but more often simply the luckiest.”

But yeah, this guy didn't behave too brightly. :(

He died for his deep beliefs. I don’t feel like ridiculing someone for that. He was old enough to decide his own fate. I hope he has found peace.

I totally disagree with you.

I draw a line at what "beliefs" are to be respected.
This is not anywhere near that line.

I totally disagree with you on this.

I respect your opinion, House Cat, but I am afraid that I disagree with you, too. Sometimes when one makes a decision it is uninformed because one has not been able to process all the information to which he has seemingly been privy..

The government clearly sabotaged his rocket to keep from people LEARNING THE TRUTH

Good riddance. Flat earthers are hilarious though. There is a clip of a documentary THEY produced where they said, if the earth is flat we can set up 2 "stations" a ways apart from each other, and shine a flashlight and the other station will see it at the same height. So they test it, and are like "nope can't see it yet. Is it on? Try raising it up... ok lets go a little higher... a bit higher.. OK THERE!" so they literally disproved their own theory in their own documentary. *facepalm*

There's all kinds of people out there.

Cool.

Deb,

I have to ask, what information are you referring to?

I watched the video, thinking O.K so Richard Branson and Elon Musk have spent billions of dollars to try and commercialise space tourism and they admit that their programs are decades behind safe space travel for tourists, yet some random dudes think they can manufacture a tin can rocket and send themselves into space and it's going to end well....

I barely moved past the utter stupidity of trying to get into space in that thing let alone proving their theory the world must be flat...

My favorite response is, "If the earth were flat, cats would have pushed everything over the edge by now."

Never understood flat earth believers. But as someone that is a trained and experienced land surveyor in the engineering field, I do a lot of calculations to check heights above sea level in certain areas that are prone to flooding to ensure the house is built at a height that will try to ensure the building isn't flooded out as per predicted flood levels and the paperwork I have actually SHOWS the curvature of the earth if you know what you are looking at.
Without getting too technical here and making everyone's eyes glaze over - different areas of the world are segmented into flat maps and there are some calculations that are required to take into account the curvature of the world. This is known as the Ellipsoid and my paperwork can show 100 feet of difference between the Ellipsoid height and the true height. It's really hard to explain, but if you were to draw a horizontal line and a curved line above it where the curve goes away from the horizontal line - the difference as you go along the line horizontally represents the difference between the grid map and earth's curvature.

If I could sit there with a flat earther, drawn this out and explain it without them getting confused - they might get it. Maybe. I'm not that hopeful

The only reason he crashed is because the liberals and their media were out to get him.

Ridiculous! @doberman you're just another kook spreading lies. It was the aliens who, from their massive underwater bases in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, used their invisible lasers to shoot him down.

I had posted:

You replied:

I did not mean anything secret, House Cat. I meant that not everyone has a well functioning ego or what is nowadays called in some quarters good "executive function". In other words, he can be given the correct information, but be unable to process it for one of many reasons. Like you, I do not want to pin all delusions on the "mentally ill", although those diagnosed with severe mental illnesses sometimes fall into the category I mentioned. Usually they do not. Somes people with obsesssive personalities who cannot let go of an idea or those raised in households where they were taught a strict dogma all their lives, cannot use new information effectively.

If the world is flat, would those in the “Southern Hemisphere” like myself, on the wrong side of the flat world and how do we survive?

I have flown to the “northern hemisphere” eg US and UK... so how does that work?

we are all on a flat world? Not sure how.
