My associate went to Costco at lunch today and she couldn''t believe how many people were in line to return their fake Christmas trees. Really? Like you just now noticed something was wrong with it??

I swear I wouldn''t last a day as an employee in the return department. I would be fired for my conduct.

Yeah, people can be real scumbags.

This drives up the prices of everything you and I buy there.

I knew a girl who traded in her iPod every so often at Costco when better ones came out for a lower price.

That is dirty.

Wow, that takes some nerve! I''m surprised Costco would take things like that back. Ridiculous! And what do the people do-buy a new one every year and then return it? That''s just weird.

23.gif
No way, now I have heard it all!!!!!

Costco is notorious for their generous return policy. So much so, that they had to change their policy a few years back as it pertains to electronic purchases. There is a 90-day return policy on electronics, computers, t.v's etc. As a result, the stock price enjoyed a delightful spike.

Prior to the implementation of the new electronics policy, members would purchase a huge wide screen t.v. just to watch the Super Bowl and then they would return it. I always thought they should have adopted a rental fee instead of taking it back and refunding the full purchase price.

Eh, people. Whaddaya do? Crazy ones keep me employed....

But realllllllly? Your fake Christmas tree? I mean, doesn't that make you feel...like Tacori said...."dirty"?

wow...that is just...base.

Someone here had a friend who used to return laptops every 3 months there and get a new one. And then was told no because he had allotted the max. number of returns. I can''t remember who that was though...

I wonder if anyone has return a turkey carcass to Costco, saying it didn''t taste good.

People are SCUM.

Although a great plan to avoid storing a giant Christmas tree box.

Honestly, it scares me that these people breed. I bet some of these people have kids and think they are raising their kids "right" while doing crap like this behind the scenes. No one's perfect, but come on!

ETA, hey, I just realized I've been here 5 years. Nice post to realize that...calling other people base and saying they shouldn't breed...hahahaha....

I worked at a maul record store for a bit in HS and people would bring in last year''s tape/CD (yes, it was that long ago since I was in HS) all scuffed and worn and try to trade it in for something new. They always claimed to have gotten multiples as a gift. I was always more peeved at our manager for making us do it than I was at the customers, though I definitely thought they were scum. It is things like these that make me hope karma really does exist.

I have the utmost respect for Costco, though, because it is the only store I have ever seen a customer kicked out of for being a jerk to a staff member.

Ahahahahahahahaha, seriously the best laugh out loud that I've had in a long time. I'm glad nobody is watching me through the windows....or maybe they are.

Should I start a "Congrats T-gal thread"? Because I really have to go potty first.

Do you suppose money was very tight & they wanted to have a tree for their kids? I mean, the economy HAS been horrible and folks are really struggling. I don''t agree with the practice though. Just feel for folks who might see this as the only way to have a tree.

Hmm, no excuse in my book.
It is basically stealing.

Deco, I got a free tree off craigslist...lucky, I guess and I felt guilty because we certainly could afford a tree.

I know times are tough and like you, I obviously don''t agree with the practice. But I have a hard time feeling for those who are dishonest. Christmas isn''t about trees and though it may be hard to disappoint the little ones, sometimes lessons on how the fam is doing needs to be taught early.

That's what I would tell myself. A person needs to do what they have to do. I guess it's better than stealing someone's xmas tree.

I saw a cute post on a website where a gal who lives in the country like me couldn''t find a tree so she found a downed tree branch & put IT in the tree stand & decorated it with lights & a disco ball ornament. One year we had a "charlie brown" style mini bare tree. And THIS year we salvaged our ailing three year old pre-lit tree by painstakingly cutting off all the weaved in lights (took HOURS) and then put our own fresh lights on it. I just couldn''t see throwing out a perfectly good tree because some of the lights were shorting out -- but DH didn''t want the hazard of flaky electrical so ... sleeves up y''all!

Craigslist is a great idea. And I''m sure there are flocks of scammy scammers who are totes base & un-breed-worthy. Just wonder what all the stories are. Theft factor aside.

When I was a kid there were a couple years we were so poor that my brothers and I picked a tree out of the trash a few days after Christmas.

That was better than nothing.

OMG, that reminds me of a story (what doesn't?)

One year, when my daughter was 6ish or 8ish (who can remember), we were at Target looking for xmas trees. We saw a poor little pathetic looking tree and my daughter held it up because it was her height. I said "Oh honey, no way. That is one sorry little Charley Brown Christmas tree and nobody is going to buy that tree". I started moving along looking for other trees and I noticed my daughter was crying and when I asked her what was wrong she said "Oh Mommy, nobody is going to buy that tree and I really think that somebody should buy that tree because somebody needs to love that tree" and on...and on...and on.... Yeah, I'm sure you can guess the ending to the story.

We bought the sorry little tree.

That''s shocking.

I find it kind of ironic that people go to such lengths to maintain this pagan-rooted tradition at Christmas..lol.

If I were costco I''d start implementing a restocking fee on certain items after certain dates. Like...christmas trees after christmas.

...Wanted a tree for the kids but they were too expensive? Not buying it.

Get a real tree for a twenty and make the effort to water it once a fortnight. Fake trees are convenient - and expensive.

Honestly, abusing the return period like that is just so crass
38.gif
- and those same people wonder why their kids are amoral miscreants?

I am SURE they have. Places like that and Trader Joes encourage you to return something if you don''t like it. Although I don''t think they intend for people to return totally empty/eaten items-I am SURE it has happened!

TGal Happy anniversary you classy classy lady

Wow, that is pretty gutsy! I don''t think I could pull off returning a used Christmas tree

let alone a turkey carcass!

Wow. I was that little girl, and you were my dad (suckers, the both of you!) only the tree was a puppy. A puppy that had been in the pet store for over 6 months and WAS ON SALE.

We took it home and I had to beg my mom (what is with you parents?!) to keep her. Corkey (the dog) was my mom''s most loyal companion for the entirety of Corkey''s life, and she HATED me.

What the heck?! If it wasn''t for me...

That is just unbelievable....what nerve some people have!

Is your associate sure that they were not buying fake Christmas trees? Perhaps they are marked down after Christmas?

I'm guessing there is a special returns department at Costco, so that's how she knew they were ALL returns? And, she also talked to ALL of the MANY people in that line with all of those trees, and she verified that none of them had defective lights, or something actually wrong with them, and these horrible, horrible people were not simply well-intentioned people who did not have the time or fortitude to visit Costco for the justifiable return before the holiday. Well, in that case, well, honestly, I'm still not really bothered by it. I could think of worse things those MANY after-holiday-tree-returners could be doing with their time.
