is it really worth it to get an ideal cut stone for a pendant or can a shallower stone do just as well? I think this was asked before so excuse the duplicate. Also, why not a shallower stone for a ring? Most of the time it''s not seen up close anyways, right? I''m thinking of something .33 or so in a simple yellow gold setting for a pendant. Mainly I want sparkle, not as concerned about color (could go to j or even k). Any ideas???

My favorite pendant stones are emerald cuts.
In rounds yes a shallower pavilion than works well in rings will kick fanny.

In a ring the owner and other look at it close a lot especially when its new.

I think you should take a look at the ES from WF. Go for a nicely cut J, or K and an SI1, or SI2 if it''s eye clean. How will this be set??

it will be set in a simple four prong basket setting. Or maybe a bezel, not sure.

storm I like emerald cuts, too, but finding one in that small size would be tricky, no? Actually it would have to go up higher in carat size probably since they look small for their weight, right? I used to have a cz emerald cut pendant and I loved it. Cheap, though, not even real gold. Wore out fast.

storm what would be the angles for a shallower stone?

the chart there is a general guidline.

Small kicken EC''s are available from GOG down to .30 or so and they look bigger for there weight then rounds in the smaller weights in my opinion with the proper selection.

An EC is just not going to give her the sparkle she wants. I"d stick to a RB.

Yes, I agree. An EC pendant is going to defeat the purpose of having a diamond necklace. You want LOTS of sparkle so that your pendant will stand out against clothing!
