Have you seen the facebook videos with the peel off black mask?

I placed my order yesterday. I am not going to put it all over my face but for spot cleaning. I'm not going to video myself peeling it off.

I saw that. I was curious, so I did a Google search and found a whole lot of recipes for making a homemade version. They all include *glue*. That certainly explains a lot.

Please post how it turns out. I saw a lot of those videos and am intrigued by them, but the YouTube videos of people pulling them off looks really painful (but they used it on their entire face). I was like  the whole time, but couldn't turn away
I bought the Boscia black peel off mask from Sephora and have only used it on my nose and chin areas. Although it doesn't pull out blackheads like the ones on the Facebook/YouTube videos, I don't think the boscia mask is as painful as those.

Ada, what kind of glue?

hoover, yeah I have a sliver peel off mask. Does nothing.

I will post. I only bought one tube, which was probably dumb. I have a bunch of teens and their friends; I'll order more if it works well on spots.

I wanted to try it too actually haha.

I use the dermologica charcoal masque, but it's not a peel off one. I do love how it makes my skin feel after though!

OMG, a friend of mine just did this to himself! He said he made it with charcoal and glue. It sounds crazy, but he said his skin felt amazing!

:wavey: I have the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask (with activated charcoal) http://www.sephora.com/luminizing-black-mask-P266800

I can't say I saw any particular benefit to the charcoal, but it's a good gimmick. Yes, my face felt smoother, but that was more the result of the ripping out of lots of superfine baby hairs during the peeling process  I think you'd get the same from any sort of peel-off mask. I also saw plugs of gunk pulled out from my nose area, similar to what you'd get from a Biore strip.

When I tried it for the first time I did it full-face, but I think it's better used for spot areas (like nose/T-zone).

I've seen those DIY vids with the glue and charcoal tablets and personally wouldn't do it! Yes, Elmer's can be peeled off skin after it dries, but it's not quite the same consistency  If you want similar results for less money, just get a box of pore strips! That's probably what I'll do when my container is done.

PLEASE do not do this one from Facebook. Please.

I happened to be at the Dermatologist about 10 days ago and overheard some blood curdling screams from the next treatment room over. Turns out it was a ~15 year old girl who used one of those, and literally tore her skin right off her face. In chunks. Her mom was really upset trying to keep her calm, and understand what she had done to herself when she approved the purchase with her weekend and afterschool job money. They were doing a followup before her surgery and she was fighting a hell of an infection. The doctor had sent the mask she used to the lab, as well as a few the doctor's staff ordered that were similar and found on Amazon and Ebay that were advertised by "gurus" on YouTube and found that every single one contained an epoxy that was not intended for skincare use--or human skin for that matter--one of them was used commonly to adhere roofing shingles. Another contained surgical glue that would tack skin together in under 60 seconds. Bottom line: NONE of these were meant for use in a skin mask and all of them would tear the skin off your face, especially the one she used.

This poor kid now has to go through extensive surgery on her face to repair the damage. At 15. And will likely be disfigured.

All because she got sucked in to a video someone on YouTube posted that might have been "funny" and that went Viral on Facebook.

Oh my gosh! The DIY video I saw used Elmer's glue mixed with the contents of charcoal capsules and a drop of peppermint oil, which certainly isn't the smartest thing put on your face, but not disfiguring! That is insane!! It reminds me of that woman who was arrested for doing augmentation injections with fix-a-flat/other inappropriate goop. Yikes, be careful of your face, people! :knockout:

Elmer's Glue, I'd think, would not do this kind of work, since I remember as a kid doing that whole peeling off my hand thing, and it's water soluable IIRC. But this is SERIOUS glue they're mixing in and sounds like a bunch of conmen doing it. She said they tried to contact the companies and none replied, IF they even were able to be contacted--as in, nonexistent after the sale.

That is seriously scary. You're right that elmers wouldn't do that, but if you are correct about EPOXY that is disgusting and should NOT be used anywhere on your body.
Welp I'll be staying away from those now lol.

Holy crap, Ame! That is terrifying!

It hasn't gotten here yet, and I did start to wonder if it is from china, what could be in it. (Toxic drywall after hurricane katrina, anyone...)

I appreciate the story... poor girl.
