I have got my eye on a pear shape diamond that looks great until I get to the comments section of the GIA Report. It states that "Crown angles are greater than 40 degrees" Is this something i should be worried about?

here is the other info i have on it.

GIA#2121691725

Pear Shape
1.15ct
8.54x5.70x3.83

clarity vvs2

Depth 67.2%

rfguy,

That diamond is really deep. It's going to look small for its weight.

Hi,
Actually, as a number unto itself, 67.2% is not considered "deep" for a pear shape.
The higher crown (the result of the crown angles) may indeed result in a stone that has a bit of a smaller surface area than other stones of the same weight- BUT- it might also result in a unique and beautiful appearance( or not)

Have you seen the diamond?

I hope out doesn't appear to be too small. I haven't seen it yet, its a blue nile diamond. I am a little lerry of buying online but they have a great reputation...

I was looking at 1c pear diamonds for someone else and actually IMO that one faces up a pretty nice size for a pear of that weight. . Can they give you an ASET. I love chubby pears and the specs look good to me, but i"m no expert on pears, although I love that shape.

It won't look small. And RD is right, with pears the depth can have some nice side effects, chief among them being that it might result in a very slight or no bowtie. Would you know a good pear in person? If you have the ability to evaluate the stone in person to make sure it's a good looking stone (and of course some of it is preference) then blue nile can be worth the risk. Personally I prefer a vendor that can provide me with image and an ASET for diamonds, but especially for fancy shapes... and even more so for shapes with bow tie concerns like marquise, pears and ovals. But many people have happily purchased from blue nile.

Not sure what an ASET was... I googled it, and now I know. I am learning so much here :-) I'll check and see if they can provide one to me. I really liked the dimensions of the diamond and the GIA report looked good on it (with the exception of the comments section). BN does have a 30 day no questions asked, money back policy so if I dont like it I am out the cost of shiping one way.. $50.
