I decided on a setting that would be very simple yet substantial enough to be a "stand alone" ring. I chose a three stone setting with pear shape accent stones. I have questions about sizing of the accent stones as well as their ratio.

What size pear accent stones would be best with a 2.00ct round center stone? This is a nice setting:

I tried to copy and paste and it didn't work

If I ever get this ring can you imagine me posting a photo!

If I'm reading this chart correctly, www.ajediam.com/Pear_diamond_sizes.html , I think a .50ct would be sufficient. (6.00mm x 4.00mm).
Kaleigh's ring has .78 side stones (if I'm remembering correctly) but her center stone is a bit larger as I recall. Lucky girl.
I think that.78ct is too large for a 2.00ct. I would love to go that size but I want the center stone to stand out. I haven't been able to see anything locally to help me figure this out.

Another thing, do I need to be picky about the cut of the pear's if they are just the side stones? I know that better cut helps the bow-tie effect. I don't want the side stones to take away from the center stone with a strong bow-tie.

I think I would like chubby pears. Does that mean I should pick something with a ratio of 1:45 or 1:50?

And what about color? Should the pears be the same color or better than the center stone?

Any ideas?

I think Kaleigh's pears may be a total weight of something like .78, not .78 each. So .30-.35 each might work for a 2 ct.

Edited to add: Her sidestones are .68 total weight, so approximately .34 points each with a center of 2.3 cts.
So you'd probably want no larger than .30 each (.60 ctw.)

Thanks for correcting me on the size. Then 1.00 tcw would probably be overkill.

Hope Kaleigh can give some advice on shape.

Yeah, that''s the good news, you only need about .60 total weight!!! I think most people have the setter source the pears and they will send you pictures to approve. At least that''s what people on here have done before when getting someone like Leon Mege or WhiteFlash to make that kind of setting.

Here''s a pic of a 1.5 with .30''s .60 total weight. Kaleigh''s ring has smaller pears more like accents to her stone. if you going for that look you''d probably want the .30''s for a 2 carat stone.

Hi Mrs. T! I could not link to the whiteflash pic, but your description made me think of that gorgeous Leon Mage 3 stone. Ries got the ''baby KD'' with a 2.6 rb center, 0.32 pear side stones (0.64 tcw). Hope that helps!

Hi MrsT, my pear sides are .34 each for a total of .68TCW. I am picky about the shape of pears too. I like them to be nicely shaped and have minimal bow ties. My center stone is 2.36. HTH....

Thanks everyone for the help. I was way off in my estimation of what size to use. This is very good because I can put the funds towards the center stone.

Amanda: Wow! That is a gorgeous ring. Thanks for posting the picture.

RoughRock: What is a "baby KD" from Leon Mege?

This is so pathetic but I''m still searching for the center stone, which leads me to another question about color.

I read that it''s easier to notice color in the fancy shapes. Should I be concerned if the center stone is an "I" color when using pear''s as accent stones?

I noticed everyone selected accent stones in similar color range to the center stone. I''m trying very hard to find a stone in "G" or "H" but there''s one stone that''s 2.33 in an "I" color that looks really good to me, it''s not as deep as some others I''ve looked at. I just haven''t seen it in person to see if I notice the color. I have seen very nice "I" stones that didn''t bother me.
I was thinking though, that the pears might need to be a grade higher than the center stone.

Thanks for helping me sort out these details. Its very much appreciated.

Amanda! Goodness! You need to post pictures on Show me the Ring, girl!!! What''s that gorgeous thing doing hiding in the LIW forum???!!!
I did have a thread, but I could only seem to post a link to the LIW thread. I couldn''t get the pictures to repost!

Hi mrs.T. the baby KD is a smaller version of kristydarling''s Leon ring that lean is making for another Pricescoper who has a 2 carat stone. Kristydarling''s 3 stone ring has a center stone well over 3 carats with pear sides. She has a H center stone and went with H pears and said in another thread that at times she can tell a slight difference in color and she should have gone with G''s for the pears. however she said no one else would be able to tell and it''s only her close inpections that can see it. I''d have the vendor pull sets of stones in both the color center you choose and one color higher and place them next to your stone to see which looks best. it can also depend on where the center''s color is ranked, like a high H or low G etc.

O.K., I''m ready to talk to vendor now. Thanks!
