Where do I start to look for a Pear or Oval shaped diamond? It's not going to be huge - my budget is probably about $1,000 - $1300 for the stone. It will be a ring with some kind of ruby sidestones. This is my "push present" project and my total budget is about $2000.
I have no idea where to start looking for a pear or oval or how to find a decent one. Color is not important - I like the lower colors. I'd like it to be well cut and eye clean. Help?

I should clarify - it doesn't have to be lower colored. I just don't mind if it is. And I'm having the setting made on Etsy so I know aprox what my budget is for it - $700 - $800 should cover it.

How do I know these are well cut and will have good light return for a fancy shape?

I've got a lot of faith in DBL. Yeah, they're GIA graded....but I've heard from many corners of the earth that this guy knows how to pick stones-not just for how they look on paper, but for their beauty in real life. I LOVE this pear:

It's just so cute and fat. I was thinking about it myself and wished it would have worked. I like the fact that it has a twinning wisp. Why? I don't know. This guy just has personality.

I just don't know how much wiggle room you're going to have for rubies when you add this to the price of the setting. Rubies (good ones) are going to be up there.

I'm looking at tiny rubies and no they won't be the top of their class unheated rubies but they will still be nice enough for their size and application.

I inquired with JA about getting assets for 3 of their pears.
