Hi! Got a question for you all…
I am in talks with Maytal about setting a 0.60ct pear into a halo pendant w/ pave swinging bale, miligrained all around… and I’m stuck on whether to set it in 18kt white gold or platinum.
Reason why I might go with 18kt white gold:
1) my neck is sensitive to weight… I am aware when I wear my solitaire, and sometimes it annoys me. Always relieved to take it off at the end of the night, but I love how it looks on so I still wear it.
2) I actually like the brighter look of the rhodium plating on pendants, but not sure how it’ll look on a halo.
3) It’s $200 cheaper than platinum.
4) Hate patina on platinum
However, my dilemma:
1) it’s only $200 more for platinum, seems like a waste not to get it if I’m already going custom.
2) Wont yellow, although my solitaire hasn’t yellowed at all, and it has been 3 years already.
3) It’s more antique looking, and the halo style is very antique to me, esp when it has milgraining.
4) wont scratch much since it''s on the neck, so the patina wont bother me. (hate patina on plat)
I don’t have to decide for another month or so… but I’m really stuck. Any advice? Anything I’ve missed?
