My mom''s b-day is the 14th and I really want to get her a pear pendant since I know she loves the shape. But I also know that with her limited diamond knowledge, she prefers high color and clarity (no matter what I tell her).
So, I found one pear that''s a .53, F, VS1 at JA, link http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Pear-Diamond-1256456.asp and I really like the shape. The very thin girdle part bugs me a bit though. Should I worry about it since it''s going to be a pendant?

Can anyone help me find something similiar? I know nothing about pears other than I like the shape of the one I linked. I''d also like it to be at least half a carat, colorless and no lower than a VS1. Budget 1,400 max for the diamond.
Thanks.

Hi Elle

Thats a nice looking pear, ask JA for an ASET image and also if they can do a Sarin scan to get detailed measurements of the diamond. Check also with their gemologist about the girdle, if it is only in the microns and does not cover a large and or vulnerable area of the stone - especially as it will be set in a pendant - it could be fine.

Also check with JA if it shows much of a bow tie, often elongated fancy shapes can show this effect, it literally looks like a dark bow tie shaped area across the upper centre of the diamond. Some dislike bow ties and stipluate that this effect be minimized as much as possible, personally I don't mind a slight bow tie as long as it is fairly unobtrusive, but JA will be able to tell you more.

Thanks Lorelei. I asked them for an ASET and the SA put a rush on it (I need the stone as soon as possible) but was told the earliest will be monday (latest wednesday). They''ll look into the girdle as well. I forgot to ask about the bow tie but will when I get the image.

I''m not comfortable buying a fancy shape online, would rather see them in person, but I''ve been looking for the past week and couldn''t find any pears in the shape I wanted. They were either too fat, too skinny, too square looking on top etc. Pears are not easy.

Most welcome my dear! I know what you mean about wanting to see the stone in person but the ASET will tell us more and from all the info we have plus the photo it looks promising - pears are definitely NOT easy, you are right there!

I need a daughter like you!

, but considering all she''s done for me, this doesn''t compare.

tyty333- I saw that one too and totally like the D color, but even if it is eye clean, it won''t be mind clean to her.

btw- I want to do a micropave halo with the smallest stones possible. But wondering if I should it in intense yellow, intense pink or white? She''s olive skinned and the yellow would look nice her but a pink delicate halo

Nice find Ty!

I think a delicate pink halo would look beautiful with a colourless pear, thats my vote!

Lorelei- Do you think that a halo will over power a stone that size? That''s my only concern. I tried doing searches for pear halos on PS but the only ones I''ve found were for stones over a carat. I can''t even find rounds with halo''s in the half carat range.
Does anyone have any pics of smaller stones with halos?

I''m also wondering how small the smallest melee is that can be used for this project. So far, I''ve found .07 pointers but wondering if any vendor carries melee even smaller.

I think the halo would be fine Elle, I wish I knew of some pics with similar size pears with halos, I don''t know if anyone photoshops now to do a mock up for you, but maybe someone will volunteer.
