Pear diamond L/W ratio?

What is the preferred length to width ratio for a pear diamond? I keep looking for a nice pear and actually prefer the longer length but don't want one that is totally out of proportion. I am thinking 1.75 to 1.80.

For those that have a pear, what is your l/w ratio? Do you like it or would you prefer a different ratio?

Please post pictures of your pear along with the ratio.

I can tell you from a lot of personal experience......there's no "correct" ratio.
I'd say it's more common that people want a longer stone ( 1.5:1+) but there's still many who love
"chubby" pears.
Neither is right, and neither is wrong IMO.....

I think what you really have to watch for is that most of the time the good light return is in the rounded end and the points tend to be "mushy".
I worry about the longer the stone is the more mush you may have (just makes it harder to find the "right" stone IMO).

If 1.75+ is what appeals to you then that is what you should get.

If I did the math right, it's 1.30?

Ding ding ding ding ....CORRECT!!!!
L divided by W gives you the ratio

About "mush".....I can tell you that photographing pear shape diamonds presents some unique challenges. Part of the difficulty is that a well-cut pear may encompass two totally different sorts of light performance- one at the tip, and one at the widest point of the stone.
At times it's difficult to capture the beauty of the sparkly tip- which can look "mushy" in pics....but not always in real life....but sometimes it does

_39083.jpg _38319.jpg My pear is almost 1.40 lwr- chubby but elegant. I don’t long overly elongated pears (personal taste)

It's worth mentioning there are things in addition to the L/W that make for a good looking pear. These include 1. The round end of the pear should be a perfect semicircle, some pears have "shoulders" at the round end, and these do not look good. 2. the lines going from the semicircle to the point should curve gently, definitely no straight lines. Hope this helps!
