aww thanks, Lorelei! I''m hoping to have my hot little hands on her by next week

and I do think that she''s pretty much already a keeper!

CFemme,
Ellie''s outline is beauiful. Do you know the l/w ratio?

she is a stunner and I think we have another pear soon to add to SMYP's!

OMG, that''s lovely! I don''t think the bow tie looks at all bad from the pictures. It has scintilation within it, it''s not just some big dead space. Practically all pears have at least a suggestion of a bow tie.

As far as my budget, it was pretty small. I got my diamond for about $3500. But there was really no interest in diamonds that color a year and a half ago, and I think that''s why I got it so cheap. It was also right before the price hike in diamonds. I don''t think I could afford it now if I went to buy one like it.

Anyway, I think you have a keeper. I''d put that baby on hold TODAY! Get it in your hot li''l hands!

I think Ellie is beautiful! Her bowtie isn''t really that bad either - any pear is gonna throw off a look like that in some lighting, it''s just whether you see this noticeable dead space more often than not, and it doesn''t look like that''s going to be the case.

Definitely show us some of your own pics once you get her! (And to make you feel less silly - when I got my pear I named her Franny because I got her on my first anniversary.

lumpkin, I''m so sorry, I didn''t mean to hijack this thread

but I did buy the diamond today, it''ll be here next week if I can decide on a mount!! (and can I just say what an AWESOME deal you got on your pear?!?!)

Ladies, thank you for your votes of confidence, they really helped play a part in my decision. perhaps I''ll start a thread about it, but I''m not sure if I should put it in RockyTalk or SMTR since it''s not set yet. any advice on where to start the thread? thanks!

diamondlil, the l:w is 1.45 - I love that she''s chubby like me
2.gif

Lorelei, when she gets here, I''ll definitely post her in the SMYPs thread! I can''t wait!
lumpkin and Firegoddess, thanks for reassuring me about the bowtie. Firegoddess, I think that Franny is gorgeous and that your name for her is so clever and sweet.

Last but not least, since Ellie is mine now, I will tell you that I bought her from David @ DBL. I thought it was obvious since I greeted him earlier in the tread. It was so much of a coincidence that I found this thread and that David had posted - it seemed like a sure sign that Ellie and I were meant to be.

THANKS Lorelei!

and getting back to something earlier in the thread - I just checked my plot diagram and see that my stone has 6 pavillion mains and a french tip. I find that so interesting!

Cool beans

I think this pear is going to keep you occupied for sometime, though not so occupied that you can''t share with your supporters!

She''s a BEAUT!!

YAY! I'm glad you made a decision on Ellie. She looks like a sweetie to me. I've been doing lots of searches for pear diamonds, and there just aren't that many choices. The fact that you could see it in pictures I'm sure helped you make the decision (HINT HINT to any vendors here who are hesitant to provide photos). I'm glad this thread helped you learn about pear cuts -- I certainly learned a lot! I'm so glad David provided some information and insight. I knew that's where Ellie came from because I know about ALL the on-line pears.

I knew right away.

I can't wait to see which mounting you put Ellie in. Do you think side trillions? Baguettes? Can't wait to see the photos.

Oooh, more fun!

Trillions sound yummy, so do baguettes - decisions, decisions........

Lorelei and Lumpkin, decisions decisions! they''re driging me insane, so David and I decided on a simple WG cathedral mount for now. He does have a pair of yellow pears that I would LOVE, though. We''ll see where this leads! Lumpkin, I had a feeling you''d know where Ellie came from

Oooohhhhh! Yummy yellow pears.

First, congrats on deciding to keep Ellie! We want to see more pictures of her!!!!

Second, those are yummy yellow pears!

Third, can ANY of the experts chime in as to what difference the number of main pavillion facets has on the way the stone looks face up?

And fourth, did someone suggest trillion sidestones???!!!!

Ooooo, those are pretty yellow pears. I''m diggin on that purplish pink pear, too.

Hi everyone,
A gracious thanks to all!

OK- I will admit that I learned something about pear shapes in this thread.
I noticed over brilliance and other charachteristics of cut- now I will be looking at pears to notice tip design too!

It''s probably still not possible to get precise, repeatable results based solely on the tip design.
In other words- if the tip faceting is the same on two diamonds, other factors will influence the over all look- even at the tip.
Plus, the tip is usually a jumble of sparkle, visually speaking- all those facets coming together porduces a lot of flashing reflections.

Yeah, I just don''t know how you would put a w-ring beside it
I''d bet it would sit very snug on the side of the ring opposite to the tip of the pear.

... Yiks! I wonder what on Earth would allow ''precise, repeatable'' diamond cut grading.

If the ''simple'' rounds could be made sooooo freakin'' arcane, throwing a dozen parameters more into the mix does not sound encouraging at all. Good reality check though

I was actually wondering about the effect of pavillion facets on stone sparkle...as the variations posted by Diamondlil go....

Yeah... ''Bet this is not easy. Just looking at IS and models, it looks like - as usual, that still proportions matter and for the bow-tie thing also the size of the pavilion facets in that region have something to say. Which pattern exactly was used may not make such a huge difference for that illusive brilliance after all.

I suspect Cflutist should know more of these
2.gif
After all she struck gold with pears and marq choices already and not just once.

Cflutist ?

FG, thanks! Ellie will be the subject of ALL my pictures once she arrives. David said she'd be here by wednesday, most likely.
1.gif
thank goodness I've already figured out the macro setting on my camera!

Ana, YES! those are the pears that I want...but that pair of pears will cost WAY more than my center stone. haha! I think I'll just see what David has in a little while. They would be my DREAM come true, though
2.gif

ETA: how in the world did I miss that purple/pinkish pear?! Be still my heart!! I hadn't considered trillions, but now I will!
