Payment & Shipping for Inspection

Can someone explain how this transaction typically happens?

Do people pay with wire transfer, have the stone shipped for review/inspection?

Or

Do people pay with credit card, have the stone shipped for review/inspection then reverse the purchase (on the credit card) and do the wire transfer for the discount?

Or

Do the jewelers just send me diamonds knowing that I''m honest and will ship them back?

I don''t think any vendor will just ship you a stone without you first paying.
Bankwire vs CC depends on how comfortable you are with the vendor.

I''ve paid both ways but never reveresed a CC charge to pay by bankwire. Haven''t even thought of it..wonder what the vendor would say?

I was thinking the credit card would be more used as a pre-authorization for the transaction.
When staying at a hotel, they take a pre-auth during your booking.

I was also thinking along the lines of seeing the loose stone, then sending it back to have them set it.

I know they won't ship without payment first...I was just fooling around!
