Hello,

I am looking for a 1+ ct stone within 3500. Union Diamond seems to be the only one selling something in this range, all the stones listed by other vendors are easily >5000. I think this has something to do with the fact that these are mostly EGL certified stones. I am looking at these two stones;

The pricescope Hca tool does not give a favorable rating to the 1.32 as its pavillion is shallow. but its 39% for it and for the 1.2 ct stone only a little higher at 42%. Does this really make much of a difference? Which stone seems a better buy?

Thanks

First, very small changes in pavilion angles absolutely makes a difference. In fact, they make such a difference that neither of the diamonds you linked to are within the acceptable range. Even if you are not heart set on a "perfect" diamond, the pavilion angle really should be between 40.6 and perhaps 41.8, at the very outside (some will say 41.4 should be the limit). The stones you've linked to are either too shallow or too deep, and each will have significantly diminished light performance.

Frankly, the price you've specified is not believable for a quality 1 carat diamond. You don't want to spend these kind of bucks on an ugly diamond that will look dark, just because it is one carat. If you can't spend more than 3500, I would suggest that you look for stones in the .7-.8 range. Since weight is a factor of three dimensions, .7-.8 stones don't face up THAT much smaller than 1 carat, and a smaller stone with lots of brilliance and sparkle always looks better. Seriously.
