Hello,

I have ordered a 1.2 carat (G colour Si1, 3Ex) diamond - very excited  , now need to choose the setting

But need help - Which of these 4 prong pave settings do you think will make the diamond look the biggest? Although at the same time I want the ring to have a vintage look so some of the settings might make it look more modern? I love love love the Michael B Paris design (but its way too expensive) so want something similar, which I will be getting custom made: am going to meet the ring designer tomorrow.

Please post your similar rings!

Option 1: With basket, pave on the basket

Option 2:

Option 3:

Option 4:

Thank you!!

Re: Pave -Which of these prongs will make a diamond look big

I'm not sure that the sides of a prong will make the diamond "look bigger". I think the tips of a prong may affect the
size of the stone. The only thing I have heard (and I dont have one) is that a setting with 8 prongs can make a stone
look bigger but I think it depends on the size of the stone. I dont think 8 prongs on a little stone are going to help it
look bigger.

I'm not usually a fan of prongs with melee on them. To me it distracts from the center stone. Just too much going on.

How big is the stone you are using? For prongs with melee it should be a relatively large stone (IMO).

Well - you're talking about an optical illusion here, and it's probably mostly subjective. that having been said, my gut tells me the first will make the stone appear bigger. Can you try them on? Can someone at the vendor take top down pictures with the same hand at the same distance?

It's a 2.1, unlike most of the Michael B rings I've seen which tend to be 2 carats so yes it may take over and detract from the stone!

Thanks

Sadly I don't think the vendor will have settings in their office, they have a designer and then the setting gets made off site. I did go to some jewelry stores today to check out different settings...didn't see too many that were similar to what I'm looking at. Plus the shop assistants were positively unhelpful and even rude to me! I think because I was a lone female, without the fiancé so little chance of them making a sale there and then so they didn't bother with me

I guess if I want the proper optical illusion I will need to go for a halo setting...that's a whole other ball game/pin board/minefield!! Which I am now starting to consider argh!! :P

The Belinda at Brilliantly Engaged will come in at half to a third of the Michael B Paris's cost, and it will be better made.

I also like the Anita for the 3-sided diamond shank:

And the delicate Ada, if you're swithing to a halo:
