I understand that with pave settings there is always the risk of diamond loss.

I am curious though.... Where is the most common place on a pave set ring for diamonds to come loose?? band...top of halo...underside of eternity band?

Is diamond loss more commonly from rough wearing, or from poorly set stones?

Can anyone with pave set rings chime in their experience??

I lost pave stones in the band, and it wasn''t due to rough wearing or poorly set stones. I wish I could give you a more helpful answer, but only have what is my experience. I am speaking about a RHR and my jeweler replaces them for free, but have to send it out of state which is a PITA. Haven''t had any problems since, but am nervous every time a wear it. Which is not a lot.

Mine is 18k white gold. It hasn''t lost any stones in four years of wear, but I don''t have it on my hand 24/7, either. The jeweler who set the stone in it said it lost a pave'' stone in the ultrasonic after the ring had been sized. The jeweler fixed it and I can''t tell which stone, but I presume it was from someplace in the shank. All stones have stayed put, so far.

I have a 3-sided pave ering and have not lost any stones. I also don''t wear it 24/7, I always take it off when I do house cleaning or any other activity with my hands.

Any whack could loosen up a stone so there always will be a risk of loss. If you want pave you have to accept that someday you might need to replace a stone or two. The best thing is to have the pave checked regularly to catch something loose before you lose a stone.

Thanks for your responses...

Do most jewelers replace lost pave stones for free?? If you were to order your ring from an online vendor, would that mean you would have to send your ring away... that would be a PITA!

I have heard of stones being lost in the ultrasonic cleaner - once all the dirt and grime that has been holding the diamond in place comes off... so does the stone! I guess that''s better then losing it and never finding it though!

I''m starting to think maybe pave isn''t for me! I want to be able to wear my engagement ring as much as possible. I will have to take my ring off for work everyday... so I''d like to be able wear my engagement ring for everyday activities without the fear of losing stones.

I have many pave rings - some well made and some from ebay sellers. I also use an ultrasonic cleaner regularly. Luckily, I have not lost a single diamond. I always take off my rings when I get home.
