Pave saphire eternity? Can it scratch diamonds?

Can a saphire pave eternity band, scratch and damage a Signed Pieces Raphael eternity band, if it sits next to it. Or is this unlikely? The saphire eternity has a three sided pave kind of setting, so I am assuming there will be contact, especially since the saphire pavee ring is NOT a signed pieces ring. Any input? Or is there no worries with saphires, because not as hard as diamonds?

It sounds like any contact between the two rings would be between the sapphire on the sides of the paved ring and the metal on the sides of the diamond eternity band.

In general... I am not sure pave rings can get stacked 100% safely, but they are all the time it seems.If the rings fit well and do not spin allot on the hand, I wuld try this.

This is exactly what I had in mind, only I was considering 18K yellow gold with yellow saphires. I think I would be horrified if I found out my diamonds were ruined from saphires, but I just dont know.

I''d be more worried about the other way around - the diamonds scratching the sapphires.

Experts - should she worry about the sapphires scratching the metal on the Raphael? Glamgirl - is your Raphael band yg too? Then metal on metal is a concern perhaps.

I think over time you will damage the sapphires (friction, rubbing against the diamonds..) This would take YEARS but I think it will happen.

Hmmm... plat is denser than gold, so would the plat rub away/scratch up the gold? Experts?? My grandmother, who has owned several yg unsoldered wedding sets, claims that yg will wither away in 20 years or less if they''re rubbing constantly. She''s also known ladies whose plat unsoldered rings withered away...

Also, the sapphires could scratch the plat.... or could they? DancingFire''s wife got a diamond eternity band that started scratching up the (plat???) prongs on her ering almost immediately, by the timing of his posts. Sapph''s would take a bit longer, but I imagine it would certainly happen. Experts???

Soldering would be an option to get rid of all these variables. Or you could have a thin yg spacer band made (maybe 1mm thick??) or in plat so if the diamonds and sapphires do the scratching quickly it won''t matter so much or be as expensive to replace. HTH!

In diamond and sapphire contact, the diamonds will win. However, both diamonds and sapphires will scratch gold and platinum. If you are going to stack the rings, wear will occur, without fail. Since this wear will be between the rings you may neither notice nor care much. If you do, then do not stack or solder the rings together, which I think may defeat what you are thinking of doing if you are looking to dress up some occassions and not for others.

Thank you so much, your answer could not have been better. I now absolutely get the whole picture as to what would most likely happen. I have now decided to NOT wear both bands together.

You are very welcome. Another option to consider is to get a very narrow plain band to wear between the two. It will take all the wear and tear and you can repolish it or throw it away whenever you like. You might even get a real narrow sterling silver band for $5 - $10 to see if you like the look before getting a gold one.
