I''m a first time buyer, and couldn''t be more excited!

I just got back from a good local dealer (Reis Nichols - its in central indiana - and they''ve been around for a long time). Their "signature" diamond is called "the reserve diamond". Its got the 0 rating for cut, polish, and symmetry - and wow, do they sparkle.

The ones I really like were in the Pave setting (please follow this link: http://www.reisnichols.com/the-reserve-diamond.php)

I''ve never seen a diamond sparkle or have fire anywhere close to those - in the "dark" too!. I know the diamonds are of very high quality, but does the pave setting help alot?

Unfortunately, the only "reserve diamonds" they had on display were in the pave setting, and they closed the vault so I could not see any of their loose diamonds to compare it to. (The entire store is full of CZs because they have been robbed twice, while they have about 2000 loose stones in the vault).

No, the pave setting doesn''t help the center stone. It sounds like they are selling AGS0 rated diamonds, which are found many other places too, and are the best CUT around, which is what influences sparkle. I simply suggest that you do some research to make sure you aren''t paying a major premium for their "reserve" cut.

Pave means that there is a ring of small diamonds around the center stone, right?

Their Reserve diamonds are AGS ideal cuts. The pieces they show on their website look very nice. This could be a great place to find your stone and setting if you are not buying on line. You can''t beat seeing the stuff in person. Go back when they can open the vault!!

Pave refers to how the sidestones are set into metal. It uses tiny little prongs to set tiny little diamonds and this is unrelated to the center stone. Here is an excellent article by leon mege explaining pave: http://www.artofplatinum.com/articles/micropave.php

I suspect you''re thinking of a halo setting... that''s a style with a "halo" of small melee diamonds set in a ring around the center stone. While a halo setting is made of pave or micropave, all pave is not a halo

A halo can indeed make a stone look larger, but not everyone loves the style. If the center stone is bigger a lot of people would say a halo is overkill.
