Pave on sides of donut - what do you think?

Hi everyone, there's a lot of advice here to remove pave from the sides of the donut as it wearing it without a spacer will scratch the wedding band. I also heard that another ring worn next to the e-ring could wear away the little 'prong' holding the melee on the donut (but if this was the case, even wearing a spacer would be bad?)

I had initially decided to ask to remove the pave on the sides, and to have it on top of the donut instead (HW style), but was told it's not do-able satisfactorily. I've gotten so used seeing settings with melee on either the sides or top of the donut, that the ring almost looks bare without it.

I'm not keen on wearing a spacer, so now I'm undecided on what to do and was hoping someone with a ring like that could chime in. Is it really quite bad to have pave on the sides of the donut, or do some people have that and everything is fine (without a spacer)?

Thanks!!!

You can hardy see the doughnut in normal viewing, and if you wear a wedding band, you definitely won't see it. So I would not have pave on the doughnut if wearing a band with it. For a stand-alone ring only, I would have pave on the doughnut.

Plus it will eat into your wedding band...so you'll need a separator ring between the two.

Hmm okay...I think part of the problem is caused by how everything looks so big + obvious in pictures here!

Yup, that's what I gathered from all the older posts I've read here. I don't think I want a spacer, so I'll have to decide whether to forego a wedding band, or just have no pave on the donut!

Yes, you are right about that! Things look so tiny and delicate compared to these huge pics!!!

I vote for the wedding band!!!

I do like the look of having a wedding band too....

Hmmm, does that mean the Cartier Trinity with one band pave will also scratch (and possibly wear away) the gold from the ring that's sitting on top of the band with diamonds? I'd love one for a RHR!
