A commercial is not a documentary, it's a commercial. No one believes if you drink diet pepsi you will get a kiss from Cindy Crawford. from what I read, Busch wasn't rich when he arrived, but he did have contacts in St Louis and brothers here, his father was wealthy and there were lotsa of kids so he made his way to America.. A commercial is to sell you something, not a history lesson per se, it certainly would have been better if it were an Irish guy, or Chinese, they experienced a lot of prejudice.

Ugh yeah. Nope, not about that, although that does deserve its own thread given how utterly insane it is. But I'm personally too exhausted and depressed to start one.

Duh.
They are a marketing scheme. Designed to get you to purchase something. Go talk to the health food/diet industry if you want to get rid of lying in commercials!

Immigration is a very volatile issue right now.
We do not need anyone fanning the flames, especially a big company doing it during Prime Time.

Read what I posted above. This commercial wasn't made to fan any flames--especially not to this degree since no one would have predicted stuff would move this fast. And when asked whether the company could pull the ad (given that it will anger some people), the person being interviewed said no way, because spots for commercials at the super bowl cost about 5 million dollars. Plus, in advertising, it's better to be talked about than ignored, so her idea was that if people were talking (for better or worse) it brings attention and more revenue.

You KNOW if a commercial had run that was a fictitious account of a pro immigrant ban, and people protested it, you would tell them to suck it up.
Not one that you found out later was incorrect. But one where you intentionally lied.

This is what you are referring to that she made a mistake which she corrected the next day.
Sh*t happens. People err.
But in this case the commercial is going on as scheduled even though it is a LIE.

That is hilarious.

Nor 100% false, as it is in this case.

Ruby: I think our problem with what you are saying is that almost all commercials are 100% false. Think about all the commercials on TV. How many are true (or even partially true)?

And how many of them are as relevant to the hot button issue we are experiencing now?
Read about it - jumping off a boat, facing anti immigrant mob.
Remember the fake news about the Iraqi man who said his money died because she was sent back to Iraq..
Or the one where the boy/ girl got suspended for wishing someone a Merry Christmas.
Flaming the fire.
