Most of my family is in northern middle Tennessee, which is one of the areas flooding right now. They got about 6" of rain yesterday and it''s still raining today. My mom said my sister called her at 6 am to warn her a powerful storm was about to hit her side of the county and within a couple of minutes of hanging up, the storm hit, lighting hit the house/lightning rod, and went thru the phone line. My grandmother says she saw the electricity go thru the phone and it literally knocked the phone off the table. Needless to say, the phone is out, but they do have power.

I''ve been sent some pictures from friends/family- here''s one of them.

Not sure how if any PSers are affected by the flooding, but I hope everyone is safe!!

called ex son-in-law to make sure he and his family [my grandson lives with him] were safe. they spent the night in a closet due to tornadoes that were touching down all around. is driveway is destroyed by water and highway 64 is a mess either way once he reaches it. says he knows backroad though and things are ok.

Many places are flooding. Today Atlanta is having issues. Many people are having to evacuate families and animals. This year man....

This is from my sister''s house. They''ve had to evacuate and don''t know how things are yet.

I''m a Nashvillian. It''s unbelieveable here. Thankfully, I only had minor issues, but I have more than one friend with devastating damage to their home. It looks like the water is receding in a lot of areas, but downtown and near Opryland (areas along the Cumberland River) are getting their worst now. It''s really sad to see our city like this and so many people are without a home.

I''ve lived here collectively almost 14 years and it is definitely the worst I''ve seen here or anywhere. I just hope the death toll for us here and for our other neighbors in the Southeast doesn''t climb any more.

I think there are a few other PSers from Nashville-turtledazzle? I think maybe MrsSalvo is also in TN, but maybe East TN? Please check in if you can.

Without a home, and also their homeowner's insurance won't cover flood damage. I wonder what will happen after this. Even if people did buy flood insurance, I think flood insurance was based on a 100-year flood or something. Not a 500-year flood. Prayers for the best possible outcome for all of those affected. It's going to be a whopper of a repair bill. I have friends down that way and everyone is okay but has some property damage.

SK, I have friends that are supposed to come to TN in two weeks for their 10th. They were planning to start in Memphis and then drive to Nashville. She''s 7 months pregnant and I''m about to tell them NOT to come to N''ville. I hate to tell them to cancel their trip based solely on what I''m seeing on the WSMV website. What are your thoughts? My thought is that even with the water receding, there''s going to be mold galore and it would be dangerous for her. They were going to do the Opry, some downtown, the Hermitage and the Jack Daniel''s Distillery. Selfishly, I want them to come because I was going to drive up and meet them at Jack Daniel''s, but they need to be able to make a prudent decision now.

April,

I'm not sure what to think... I think it's going to depend on a few things. #1, did they already book a hotel? I think we should be functional by then, however, the city won't be at 100% for sure. I know the Grand Ole Opry is under water, but they have moved their shows to other locations for the time being. Downtown will get power back by Friday they say (it's out between 1st and 5th Aves) and the water supply in Davidson County is holding on as long as people conserve (not sure how this will go). Without knowing your friend's history, I'd say from a safety standpoint, she would be fine. If something did go awry, we also have several wonderful hospitals that are fully functioning. I do worry that Nashville may not be as *fun* as it could be usually, though. Is the Hermitage in Hermitage? That was hit pretty hard. Opryland Hotel, which is one of the coolest things to see, probably won't be open. The "honky tonk" bars are still open, but not sure that would be her scene being pregnant. I guess at the end of the day, if she's coming in part to see you, it could still be a great trip. If this is her "one and only time" to see Nashville, we may not be able to put our best foot forward for her. And this is only my opinion. I have a feeling things will come together quickly here. By the way, if she does decide to take the trip, please post her hotel choices and I can let you know which ones are away from affected areas. I am super sensitive to mold, too, blech...

Good luck either way!
SK

ETA: Catmom, have you heard from your sister yet? I hope everything is okay.

I don''t know yet. As far as I''ve heard they haven''t been able to get back into their house yet. When they left the water was running rapids under the floor joists but not yet into the house. They don''t know if it flooded or not.

They do have a hotel booked. She called and it''s okay. She was told the shows for the Opry the week they will be in town are at the Ryman, which is better IMO, unless you get a ground floor seat up under the balcony, but that''s just my thoughts.

I think the Hermitage is tenchincally in Donelson, on the other side of Briley Pkwy from Opryland and Shopryland, so away from the river. I told her to call and make sure it''s okay.

I don''t think this is their one and only trop to N''ville, but they live in Seattle, so it might be a while before they get back. I hooked her up with a friend of mine in Memphis to get info on hanging out there, and my friend has already let her know where she''ll be in Memphis has not been affected. I think they''re going to still come.

On a side note, have you eaten at City House in Germantown? I''ve heard good things about it and my friends were looking for a nice restaurant that''s not a chain.

certain area's in Nashville were hit hard and it will be awhile before they are open to the public again. But, there is still plenty of things that are not damaged for someone coming to town to do. Everyone I know who had a basement ended up with water in it. Opryland Hotel and Oprymills are under 10 ft of water. He's a pic from today...

It is truly very sad to see the extent of the flood damage in Nashville. As Mrs Salvo said, many areas were hit very hard ... so many people lost everything. Thankfully we and most of our friends fared OK, with minimal damage, though some co-workers are dealing with more significant damage.

As of today Davidson County (where Nashville is located) is under mandatory water conservation, as one of our two treatment plants is not functional. Hopefully these conservation efforts will help make our water supply last until the other plant is running again. There are still many things to do in Nashville in areas that were not adversely affected, so I wouldn''t necessarily cancel a trip ... but I would just keep an eye out regarding the water situation.
