Origin is really important. If it was not requested on the GIA report, assume Mozambique or Nigerian material, which is worth far less. If it is Brazilian, I highly recommend getting an origin.

I only just noticed the report date is today, so you are correct that it's probably not quite in the system yet for outside verification. As to price, it is worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it. Looks very nice and clean.

It's hard to say, but they are priced all over the place and the fact it's nice and clean helps.

I would recommend you check out paraibainternational.com for comparables, although Hong Kong is the place where these stones sell like hot cakes. You may find comparable retail values there. However, selling a stone retail is far different than the prices you can get for it, unless you just want an appraisal value for insurance purposes.

Doesn't matter which dealer...everyone has to eat. Maybe its worth $4000-$5000 retail since he offered $1000

Doesn't matter which dealer...everyone has to eat. Maybe its worth $4000-$5000 retail since he offered $1000

In Munich show 2013 they want for an 0,35ct brazilian Paraiba LI 10000 EUR per carat - no fishtale - no joke - I was very rude to the vendor and said he is an idiot!!! At this time 13500 Dollar pct.

5000$ pct would be a fire sale - start with 10K!!! per carat.

I have a friend who tried to sell a very high quality Mozambique through one of the major auction houses, and they wouldn't accept it because it wasn't Brazilian. Just wanted to note that.

Not like a top quality Brazilian IF the photo is accurate, but a very nice quality nonetheless. BTW, I'm not an expert on anything here. I just like to impart my years of experience with colored gems, and give opinions.

A couple of things to add about this, assuming its the same friend we're speaking of: 1) that was well over a year ago and my, how times (and prices!) have changed; 2) it was not nearly the level of quality of this one; 3) it was huge and in fact that was considered a drawback. In summary, I would agree with Marlow that it makes sense to approach the auction houses - they'd be stupid not to entertain interest in that stone, assuming photos and all are as represented.

Oh, and in the right circumstances, in the right hands, easily north of $5k/ct and probably closer to the $10K mark. At least those are the quotes I've been given. Hope that helps.

This topic is a very good example what happens if you want to sell a gem or some gems.

Think there is no doubt that this paraiba has a very very good quality - a good size for jewellery use, top neon color and clarity.

Some vendor would offer this gem as an "investment" gem.

A vendor offered 1000 pct for this - so 5800 total - a ridicolous offer!!

So - be careful if somebody offers "investment" gems. If somebody offers an investment FCD for example ask for a written guarantee that they buy it back for the same amount within five years and 10 % plus after 5 years - you will never get this!!!


PS:

I don't say that THIS gem was bought as an investment gem!!! But a good example for many high quality gems offered as investment and the problems you could have if you want to sell it.

I fear it is to expensive for Loupetroop....
