Does anyone have a suggestion for paper that is suitable for letterpressing but doesn''t cost a fortune? FI wants to make a press and print the invitations himself but we can''t find anywhere on this side of the pond that will supply letterpress paper. So far all I''m coming up with is Crane''s Lettra but it''s very expensive.

We would appreciate any and all suggestions!

(Oh and it''s not essential that they ship to Ireland, we can figure something out

Sorry, can''t give you any answers, but tell me more about this press and print? How are you doing it? Have you got a letter press of your own?

Hi SapphireLover! FI is making the press himself and then we''ll order the plate probably from Boxcar Press.

oh wow!!!!!!!!!!! im super impressed! i don''t know about the paper though.

You can do paper letterpress up to 24# paper but be careful if its thin it might tear.

How amazing would it be to have your very own letterpress?!!! That is fabulous!

I really don''t know what thickness of paper you need, but an inexpensive route would be to purchase packages of watercolour paper that range from 90 to 140lbs.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Alexis what is no. 24 paper in lbs? I'm not familiar with a numbering system for paper (sorry!).

Paper weight is described in lbs....

The regular copy paper you would use to print copies...of anything of non importance usually is about 20lb paper. If you look on the ends of the packaging where the label is, you''ll see where it says 20lb, 25lb etc..

I wouldn''t suggest anything lighter than 80lb paper. I would suggest trying to find 110-110lb paper.

You can find these types of stock at paper stores...you wont really find anything heavier than 60lb in an office supply store.

I would suggest calling around and seeing what weights they carry. I''m using 88lb ivory paper for my invitations, and they are not letterpress...just off a digital press.

I''ve got a thing for heavy, thick, smooth stock! ;) I paid about $32 for two reams(125 sheets to a ream) of high quality paper from a store called Xpedex. They are great, I believe you can purchase online through them as well...however there is a store near by and I need to touch all of the paper to choose!

You''ll also need to have them cut to size...
