I know this topic has been discussed but I couldn't find much that wasn't about pave or variations in color between metals. My fiancé and I are in search of a wedding band for him. He wants to go as cheap as possible and very simple. He isn't overly fussy about weight or color as long as it is "white". We came across a palladium 950 band for what I feel is a pretty good price at $220 (on sale). It's 4mm and just plain polished with no design or diamonds. He likes the look of it and its the width he wants. I showed him pictures of a ring with patina and he didn't mind the look. Is there any reason why we shouldn't get this ring?

I really like palladium - it's what my engagement ring is made of, and it's what we'll have our wedding bands done in too. I think it's nice and white and don't have an issue with the patina, whereas I do have an issue with replating.

I've attached some images with a white gold ring I have, the palladium ring, and a shiny new silver bangle. The first is of the patina'd bottom, the palladium is in the middle, the second is of the less scratched side, it's at the front.

ETA: That seems like a good price, although I've seen some slightly cheaper ones on amazon.

Thank you so much! Those pictures really help. Do you notice a difference in the weight at all between palladium and white gold? Also, do you use your hands a lot? Your ring looks great!

Oooh I just looked at your posts and saw your engagement ring face up. Beautiful!!!

Thanks! When I first got my ring I noticed it felt really light, I think palladium is less dense than gold so is lighter, but I don't notice it any more. I'm probably a little rough on the underside of my ring, but I don't wear it during (lab) work.

My son-in-law chose tungsten. It is wonderful because it just does not scratch under normal circumstances and it is quite affordable, too.

We thought about that but he wants to be able to (hopefully) keep the same ring even if his finger size changes. I believe I read somewhere that it can't be re-sized? I may be misinformed so please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you for the suggestion though!
