Hi!

My husband and I recently put an offer on a condo and it was accepted. We couldn''t be more excited!! However, the kitchen leaves something to be desired. I was flipping through some ps threads and came across your marvelous kitchen. I hope this isn''t too odd a question, but roughly how many feet across is that space? Your layout seems fantastic!

Thanks,
LL

Hi Lulu! I''m so glad you like my kitchen. It''s really what sold the house! Give me a little time and I''ll measure everything out. I''ve got to do my rounds...That is picking everyone up from school and then off to practices. Hold on!!!

Ok, from the front of the fridge to the end of the island is 10 feet. Two feet beyond that is the end of the kitchen counter. The dining area/desk area is 7 ft. across...So that''s 19 feet long (across) total. It is 9 feet wide from the front of the stove to the end of the island and 5 more feet through the hall to the door. The cabinets are 2 ft. deep and the island is 4 feet deep. Hope that helps. Do I smell a kitchen remodel????

thanks miranda!

I''m simply dreaming

and should probably wait until the keys are turned over! The current floorplan has a galley kitchen, but there is about a 4''6" hallway that runs parallel. In an ideal world, we''d like to demo the wall that currently divides the kitchen from the hallway to widen the whole space. I like how your cabinets form an L and think a similar layout would suit our space...

but like i said, first things first. get in the place! then think about tearing out walls and relocating electric wires!!

Ha ha, Lulu -- we''re in the same mindset right now! We''re still in the waiting phase to see if we''re actually going to get our place too, but we''re already redoing the kitchen and bathroom in our heads. And our dream kitchen looks much like Miranda''s gorgeous white kitchen -- but we need to get the cheap Ikea version, because that''s all we can afford right now! But yes, Miranda, your kitchen is just lovely

Unfortunately, our kitchen layout is kind of bizarre in that we dont have an L shape at all -- we''ve just got two small walls and lots of open space for an island. But losing that corner of the L really takes away a lot, unfortunately.

Good luck, Lulu! I look forward to seeing photos of your NEW kitchen sometime soon!

hi ellaila, from your description, your house sounds like our "dream" place. DH and I love older homes with "character" i''m a sucker for charm. I really hope everything goes well with the roof.

and yes, it certainly sounds like we''re on the same wavelength. it''s hard not to let your mind run wild with possibilities, regardless of whether they are realistic or not.

i''m hoping that we''ll be able to tackle the kitchen soon enough, though there are some pesky electrical issues that might twart my grand plan -- but i right now we just have to make it through the process of getting the place!!
