Conundrum: what is the typical box that comes with a Royal Asscher diamond?

As of the moment, I find myself with three different boxes for my Royal Asscher diamond--each an authentic 'Royal Asscher' box. The first came with the loose diamond from the vendor; it's small (1.5 x. 1.5 inches, about), opens in the traditional clamshell fashion, and is made of some kind of blue synthetic suede-like material that has 'Royal Asscher' embossed in gold on top. The second is a larger (2 x 5 inches, about), dark blue suede (real, I think), rectangular box that opens from each side and latches shut with a button; it has 'Royal Asscher' embossed in gold on the inside. The third box is the most elaborate. It comes in a white outer cardboard box that says 'Royal Asscher' in black. The box for the ring itself is circular and made of blue velvet and ties shut with a blue ribbon that says 'Royal Asscher' on it. It's about 5 inches in diameter and 5 inches high.

What's with all the different boxes?

"How did you get so many of them?" The first came with the loose stone from the vendor. The vendor supplied me with the second box after the inspection period was over and I asked for a nicer box to present the ring in. The third came from Ms. Asscher (can't spell her first name right-- Shalita?) at J.B. International.

At any rate, the two bigger boxes are plenty nice for presentation purposes. But they're huge!!! How am I going to whip one out of my pocket in a graceful manner? Hell, how am I going to get either of them in my pocket to begin with?

You could get a smaller ring box ... or a wooden one ... or a sterling silver engraved one for presentation purposes. There are many vendors online ... though I'd leave some time to order ... very hard to find in person in stores.

You could give her the original R.A. boxes later -- once you've explained about the cut.

ETA: you'll probably get a nice box from Leon too ... maybe use that one. It's not the writing on the box she'll be paying attention to -- TRUST ME!

My little king came with the GIA report and a certificate from the Royal Asscher company in a leather folder with the RA symbol embossed in gold on the outside of it, but I haven't seen the ring boxes yet because they still haven't finished the setting

. (Custom work: Grrrrr!) Depending on where you decide to propose, you could wrap the certificate with the large box and maybe have it in a plain shopping bag. You could pretend to reach into your pocket for something and ask her to get the box out of the shopping bag and open it.

Yeah, I imagine Leon will supply some kind of box. And I don''t really care that the box says ''Royal Asscher'' on it--so long as it doesn''t look cheap or tacky.

I''m not going to present the certification or anything like that with the ring. I''m going to show her that stuff later.
