I've been seeing some beautiful gold settings that are oxidized.
I love the contrast, but am wondering how you clean the settings w/o polishing away the oxidation? Can you use steam? I'm thinking of setting a diamond, so I'd want to keep the stone bright and shiny w/o polishing the setting.
anyone have one and care to share?

I have both oxidized sterling and 18k gold; I was told by a jeweler to use soap and water only - nothing more. I use dish soap and scrub gently w/ an extra soft toothbrush, then wipe completely dry. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, either with the brush or a cloth, as you could remove parts of the oxidized surfaces. HTH!

Thanks!
I have some older oxidized pieces, but nothing with diamonds so I've never been tempted to really clean them beyond soap & water.

I think I'd have to be a bit more thorough with a diamond though.
